The Luallen Farm

The Luallen Farm 2020- Formerly Rossford EPW. Our journey began with 4 hens for eggs. In 2024 we relocated to Kansas, Ohio and became The Luallen Farm.

Over time we added more chickens, Muscovy, Pilgrim, Buff & Sebastapol geese, Narragansett turkeys, and guinea fowl.

We haven't posted in a couple weeks due to vacation. During that time one of our Momma turkeys flew over the fence to coax her babies who had slipped through the fence back to the yard. Here she is in the middle of the neighbor's soybean field.

It was a frustrating experience. I was not going to walk into someone's crops, and risk damaging them. She was near the driveway in the morning waiting for us to let her in through the gate, noisily telling us about her adventures. Unfortunately, the five poults were lost.

We are adding a window to the west side of the barn today, and have a dozen turkey nosey nancies giving commentary.

One of my younger males from a hatch this summer. I cannot remember ever having hatched a dark polka dotted Muscovy. I am always amazed at the variations of colors and patterns in this breed of duck.

I noticed my turkey Cy was off her nest, and power eating in the barn. I felt this was a good time to check how many of her eggs were viable. When I arrived at Cy's nest I watched my geese inspect the nest, and communicate to the female gosling to sit on the nest. I do not know if there is some kind of babysitting arrangement for Cy, training the youngest (Daisy) for next spring or something else.

Fleur is showing her baby how to peck apart an apple. Occasionally she drops little pieces to signal it is food, and she removes the skin making the softer part more accessible.
