The Luallen Farm

The Luallen Farm 2020- Formerly Rossford EPW. Our journey began with 4 hens for eggs. In 2024 we relocated to Kansas, Ohio and changed our name to The Luallen Farm.

Over time we added more chickens, Muscovy, Pilgrim and Buff geese, Narragansett turkeys, and guinea fowl.

We are working on the gravel pad again, doing farm chores, and enjoying our animals on this beautiful late Spring day.

Moondancer has moved her ducklings into a recycled dog house that was relocated into the barn. There are five ducklings underneath her, and that includes the one that was keeping warm under Romeo yesterday. There are five other broody Muscovy probably hatching over the next couple weeks, some clutches are very large in number.

I think this duckling wanted a Mother Goose Romeo story, as the other 4 arrivals are with Moondancer.

We are leveling out the gravel pad when Margaret and her eleven kids decide to visit the scene.

I came into the barn, and three were in the window. I guess Mom felt it was too windy to take them outside today. I will start looking all around during the daily roll call, because they are getting very mobile.

This poor turkey poult is living their own version of Dr. Suess' Are You My Mother? A duo of Muscovy ducks commandeered a nest of turkey eggs. The ducks were sold, but the egg was about a week out from hatching.

I gave the egg to my broody hen, Pearl. Pearl happily hatched the only viable poult. I moved Pearl and her baby out of her penthouse to ground floor accommodations with Marshmallow (Pearl's daughter from last year, also broody on a nest).

The poult somehow escaped, and made its way under Romeo. Romeo must have thought one of her eggs hatched, and now the whole team goose is protecting the poult. Perhaps this is old school "It takes a village to raise a child" mentality, but in this case, a barn.

I am watching Margaret take her brood outside for the first time. It looks challenging keeping a dozen together. They are two weeks old, and the weather is beautiful.

Always inspecting our work, and purchases. We picked up a truck for trees, and decided to get more straw on the way. The chickens are always curious.

Romeo is sitting on her goose nest, not broody yet, just tending the eggs.

One of my jokester boys kept sneaking behind my chair today, and tried to groom me by pulling my hair.
