Simon Citrus Farm

Simon Citrus Farm Simon Citrus Farm sells satsuma and naval oranges seasonally (when available). We do NOT sell trees. South Louisiana is known for its great Cajun foods!

In that tradition we at Simon Citrus Farm L.L.C. take the same pride in the Satsumas we grow. In the heart of French speaking Cajun Country, we are located in Vermilion Parish, near Leroy, Louisiana. All of the Louisiana Satsuma "Mandarin" Orange Trees in our orchard are from a proven tree stock to assure the quality of the fruit we sell. If you are not familiar with the Louisiana Satsuma Orange,

it is about the size of a Tangerine and is very sweet. The fruit turns from green to yellow as it ripens and to orange at full maturity. Satsumas are edible when starting to show some yellow color. What makes the Louisiana Satsuma Orange different from other oranges is that it is extremely easy to peel, is considered seedless, and separates easily into segments. With its sweet taste, Satsumas are a refreshing fruit snack. Shipping season is from mid-October thru mid-December. Vermilion Parish grown Satsuma Oranges make great gifts for friends and family
We ship our Louisiana Satsumas within the Continental US. Please visit our online catalog. We sell to wholesale buyers, and retail at the farm location. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

Orchard status update: NOT GOOD 😢. As posted before, the freezes of December 2022 killed a third of the orchard. Many more trees died from the drought of this past summer. The freeze we had about 3 weeks ago did severe damage to the remaining trees. It is still too early to see if we have ANY remaining living trees. Thank you to all of our faithful followers, but satsuma and naval fruit production for this fall looks very bleak😢😢

The freezes we had this past December were devastating to the orchard! Over 350 trees died and are continuing to die. Most of the barely living trees did not produce fruit. The very few trees that have fruit were attacked by citrus rust mites. Sadly, we believe there will be a very minimal harvest season this year.

The 4 consecutive days of freezing temperatures the orchard experienced this past December were devastating! We have many dead trees and even more sick trees. We may not have a crop this year…very few trees have fruit on them at this time. Attached is a a very good article describing freeze damage to citrus trees. We are following the LSU advice and recommendations in efforts to help as many trees as we can to recover. We are being patient and trying to be optimistic 🤞🏻

Harvest season is over for the 2022 season. Thanks to everyone who supported us this year.

As we announced this past March, we are so sorry that shipping from our orchard will no longer be offered in the foreseeable future. This is due to a couple reasons.
Packing supplies and shipping costs continue to increase and we don't like charging more to our customers. The main reason, though, is worker shortage. As noted on our site, we are a family run orchard. Age and illnesses have causes changes in available family workers. We even lost a key family member in Sept :(
We are not large enough to warrant hiring workers.
We are so thankful for all of your customer support we have had over the past years. Perhaps one day shipping may resume.

We are so sorry to announce that shipping from our orchard will no longer be offered in the foreseeable future. This is due to a few reasons listed below.
1) The orchard has not recovered as quickly as we had hoped. We will still have some fruit available this upcoming season at the farm, but the amount will again be quite limited.
2) Packing supplies and shipping costs continue to increase and we don't like charging more to our customers.
3) The main reason, though, is worker shortage. As noted on our site, we are a family run orchard. Age and illnesses have causes changes in available family workers. The younger folks are not interested or are unable to help. We are not large enough to warrant hiring workers.
We are so thankful for all of your customer support we have had over the past years. Perhaps one day shipping may resume.

3 WEEKS…!!! That’s the shortest harvest season ever!! Our season is OVER because the crop was so incredibly small due to last winter’s freezes. Hoping this winter will be milder and next years crop will be more normal!!

Simon Citrus Farm is now open!! Harvest season has started!! Unfortunately, the crop is too small this year to do any shipping, put we do have satsumas at the orchard!

As we’ve posted before, the orchard was severely damaged by the freezes we had this past winter. Enough trees survived and are recovering for a possible crop next year. But, sadly, there will be no internet shipping this year. We may have some fruit available at the farm, but definitely not enough to plan on shipping. I hope everyone understands and looks for us in the fall of 2022!!

Update: While there are encouraging signs of life, there is still overwhelming signs of severe injury to the orchard from the freeze. The good news would be that the orchard may recover. The scary news is the uncertainty of a crop this year 😳
