SEPTEMBER 30th Deadline!!!!!

All High School Students interested in a deeper look at careers within the Louisiana Rice Industry…..check this out!

Growing Careers: Beyond the Rice Field is a newly launched agricultural career awareness initiative sponsored by the Louisiana Rice Promotion Board. This one-day field study is designed for students in grades 9–12 and offers an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the wide range of career opportunities within the agriculture industry. The experience will also highlight the important work being done at the H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station, giving students a firsthand view of innovation in Louisiana rice production. Application are being accepted until September 30th for the October 21st event.

This event is open to 9-12th grade students (not limited to 4-H and FFA members). Limited to 30 participants.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the upcoming Rice "Model Farm" Field Day on September 26th in Kaplan! Christian and Julie Richard, owners of Richard Farms, are collaborating with the LSU AgCenter and the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation to evaluate specific Best Management Practices in rice that can help address nutrient runoff and soil health improvements. Master Farmer Phase 2 and Continuing Education Credits are available to attendees - details below!

I wanted to start a fact “farm”day every Friday! It is very important to me to spread agriculture knowledge throughout the state of Louisiana and what better way than to use social media! I felt it only fitting that this week’s fact be about the rice industry with rice harvest in full swing here in Louisiana (minus the set backs from this weather)!

My family and I personally farm rice in Vermilion Parish, so please enjoy the image of one of our family combines! ♥️
