Woape Farm

The word "Woape" (woh-ah-pay) comes from the Lakota Sioux word for hope. Woape is the foundation of the farm.

It is our goal to provide a healthy, pasture-raised, natural, and chemical-free product to our community customers. But moreover we hope to provide a safe, therapeutic environment where people can learn, relax, and enjoy the land.

Woape Farm is built on a scalable model that allows for growth over time of both customer-base and livestock variety. We currently have pasture raised, Bronze Breasted Turkey, free-range chicken meat, free-range chicken eggs, quail eggs, and duck eggs. We will be adding pasture fed beef in the coming year as well!

Our farm model revolves around the idea of building the soil to build the farm. This is done through species-specific grazing practices that allow each species of livestock to live as they were intended and impact their environment in the way that they would in the wild. For example, our dairy goats browse and graze all plant life from about six inches above the ground to five feet, fertilizing the earth along the way. In approximately two to four weeks, the goats will have depleted their food supply and will be rotated onto another pasture, leaving about six inches of grass that is perfect for poultry to consume. After the poultry have depleted their food supply on that same plot of land, they will follow the goats and pigs will be brought in to consume what is beneath the surface and left by the chickens and disturb the land enough to provide aerated and fertilized soil for airborne seeds which can be planted by the farmer or simple allowed to recover naturally. Over time, this process builds the natural, organic, and carbon absorbing (humus) layer of soil which is essential to healthy plant life. Soil is the foundation of any farm, and our model is to build a solid foundation.
