All the great ones have a story…the one behind this weeks may go down as one of the best yet. It was on a trip to MT 4 years ago this coming week that I saw him for the first time. He was the most different Shorthorn bull calf I’d seen in years, if not ever. Massive upper rib shape. Big Foot. Cat Sound. Eye appeal. Next came what he was…different pedigree, too. His sire, born in 2000, I remembered as likely ahead of his time. His Maternal Granddam was responsible for some of the best cows I saw that day. I was bound and determined he was coming to Kathryn. It took 2 more summer visits to Fishtail to make it happen. Each time, the bull looked GREAT. Each time, I left thinking the breed needed a chance to see and use him. Last spring, we had the privilege of turning him out with some of the best cows at JSF. This spring, they gave us some of our best calves…and they haven’t taken their foot off the gas since. Others that tried him, report the same, as I’m told there are a couple ringers down in Nebraska, too. Back to the bull-his name stems from the first day I saw him, asked what he was, and quipped…”WHOA…that’s Old School Cool…”
