I had to wait until their donation was delivered before I could post….
The girls would like to thank everyone who donated to their tip jar the past two setups. It added up to a total of $54! The girls then took a portion of their setup and added it to the donation. Although, when they heard their dad and I were matching their donation, they wanted it to be “their thing”, so they matched it on their own! They delivered their $200 donation on Tuesday and were beaming. I’m so proud of their hearts. I’m proud of the fact that they’ve worked hard all summer and still continue to choose to live generously. 🩷
☀️ I’ll be real honest, having a popsicle cart in a relentlessly hot and humid summer wasn’t easy. They faced many challenges.
🌡️ #1 Heat and Humidity- This meant working each setup strategically to preserve their inventory. Constantly doing temperature checks and thinking about how the humidity was going to impact each product.
💰 #2 Inventory Costs ⬆️- They didn’t raise their prices this year. That’s because they wanted to keep the prices at a pricepoint that they could afford to pay if they wanted to buy a treat from somewhere. So, they took some losses.
🤼♀️ 👧🏼 👧🏼 #3 Ages and Stages- They chose fun and sports over work some days, so it was their lowest earning summer. But, at 10 and 14, still an earning summer. A summer of different opportunities.
🎤 🧶 ⭐️ #4 Doing It Their Way- They got to pitch their small business to a group of small business owners. They spoke to kids their age about business and customer service. Maci even got to sell some of her own crocheted creations this year.
They ran the cart primarily on their own. They felt the impact of their independent successes as their dad and I were busy working. That also meant making flubs along the way, but living and learning from them. They delivered flyers to local businesses and put themselves out there, even if it meant not getting a call back. They continued to try to make calls and drop off flyers even when things didn’t pan out like they thought they would. Man, how hard is that?! Even as an adult 🫣.
☀️ This summer they learned grace, humility, forgiveness, generosity, diligence, and what it means to grind. They saved money for trips, squishies, fun trinkets with friends, gifts for their sisters, and a donation to a family and a cause that meant a lot to them. Thank you.
🤗 They couldn’t do any of this without YOU! A community that loves on them and their goals and aspirations. One that offers them opportunities to do something they love while gaining experience, knowledge, some savings, a little spending $, and so much confidence!
