Well, what a whirlwind of a day! Morning hoof trimming plans got put on hold for the arrival of these two little lovelies. Domino did an amazing job for any seasoned doe, let alone a first freshener.

After we got our new momma and her littles settled in, we did get started on the hoof trims. But now we're stopping early. Foxy, not to be outdone by one of the younger does, has now entered active labor. Details and pictures soon!

Just a little love for our soon to be momma, Foxy. She's such a calm and sweet goat, you can't help but love her.

While I was waiting, I found the article they interviewed us for at the last LU Field Day. If you're a Missouri farmer or hope to be one, you should check these folks out. They have lots of great free opportunities to further your education.

Anybody want to guess what I'm doing tonight? I'll give you a hint. Foxy here is the size of a house and she's starting to have some discharge, so she got moved into a barn stall. This could be a long night...

I thought I was microchipping a goat. Blue thought he was auditioning to be a bucking bull at the rodeo. Fun times!

Well, it's ugly, and it's been ugly for years, and we knew it. But it's hard to motivate yourself to put money into a cattle trailer when the livestock are just going to tear the hell out of it anyway. But this weekend, we got a glaring reminder courtesy of the butcher cattle that you can't put off trailer maintenance forever. One of those girls smashed a hole clean through the floor. We patched it up with plywood to go ahead and get them up to the butcher for the time being, but now it's time to put this trailer through the shop and give it a complete redo. New paint, new floor, new roof, the works. Well, at least painting's fun.

We opened up a brand new pasture to the Nigerian does today. In typical goat fashion, they ignored everything else around them and all fought to eat one tree. Goats are somehow smarter than you want them to be and stupider than you want them to be, all at the same time...

Do you remember Snickers, our market goat herdsire? Well, Snickers worked himself out of a job here at NFKC, so we found a new home for him with the amazing folks at Bookworm Farm and he's doing some great work for them! His first two babies for them hit the ground a few days ago and they are freaking adorable. If you want to keep up on what's happening with Snickers, give Bookworm Farm a follow and then head over to Piles Ranch and see how the little ones are doing and give them a follow too. Supporting Missouri farmers helps us all!
