White Rock Farm SLK Daydreamer
2yo experimental
(Shady Lawn AR Kelce x CH Wil-Lea The Boss's Daughter)

Another "background" goat this year. Daydreamer is a milk through because I have a hard time getting experimental kids to sell and didn't want to fight with that this year. So she's only doing about 4-5 lb a day on test, milking through from freshening right at a year old last May.

The Kelce x Dotty breeding was done with the thought that any kids should be at least as good as Dotty, and with Dotty getting older and not giving me many doe kids, a good opportunity to get a "mini Dotty" to carry out all my fun plans for the experimentals. She is very correct in general appearance, combines dairy strength and body capacity appropriately for her age, udder well attached with fore udder for days. I'm sure with subsequent freshenings her mammary will gain capacity. (Milked out here anyways.)

She was recently bred to Impulse (Ober-Boerd Kissed by a Kobra x CH White Rock Farm Imagine) for late fall kids.

Pretty and smart. Ivalyn is always working the gate chains- she plays with the chain, then tries to push the gate with her nose to see if she was successful. 😂 Sometimes she is when I just have it chained like this.

Gotta chain the gates a certain way when I leave the barn for the day.

CH Blue-Ridge Back-2-Black Time

This doe has been quietly hanging out here since Blue-Ridge dispersed their herd and entrusted me with several lovely older ladies. 💕 She is 10 this year. Came here dry. I've been unable to get her to settle the entire time I've had her. When I say I've tried EVERYTHING...I mean I've even done surgery to remove a stubborn cystic o***y that was not responding to drugs, and it "worked" in the sense that her heat cycles became normal (every 21 days instead of every 5-7 days), until last year they again became irregular. She's lived with the bucks for a couple years. I'd hoped she'd be my ticket to finally getting a black doe kid here, but about a year ago I gave up and she's just living the retired pet life with the rest of the herd. She does make a good teaser animal, too.

A few weeks ago she decided she was going to bring herself into milk. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm sure related to her wacky hormones. So now I'm magically at 8 milking Oberhasli in my herd, quite convenient if we are going to be close on numbers at a show.

She needs her feet trimmed and she's a little chunky but still can appreciate the overall correctness and just the overall power she has, especially for an old girl.

Hoosier Classic 2026

Well I thought we were done showing until fair season. But the show bug bit hard 🤣
This is my 6th consecutive weekend at a goat show (showing or judging) and I wasn't sure we'd be up for it. But I really wanted to get one of my two-legged goats finished this year. Since we're not going to Nationals this year I was also excited to see a nice competitive Oberhasli show by quality and numbers.

2yo Tonya 1x 2nd, 1x 3rd, 1x 5th (?)
3yo Ivalyn 3x 1st, 3x GCH/BOB, 2x Best Udder Oberhasli
4yo Starlight 2x 2nd, 1x 4th(?)
CC Imagine 2x 2nd, 1x 3rd

CH (pend) White Rock Farm DDM Ivalyn finished her championship in the first ring but with 25 does entered in regular classes, reserve would still get an unrestricted leg so I decided not to scratch. How fun to walk away with GCH and best of breed in all 3 rings in such a competitive show! Excited about this girl.

I get asked sometimes how I can tell my Oberhasli apart. This is one way. 🤣

I weighed some doe kids today. My yearlings are objectively small. My Oberhasli are on the bigger side of average so they'll be fine, but they aren't what I'm used to. I have a rough idea of what happened but still stunned by how I didn't even notice as it was happening; kids looked fat and healthy.
So I've been a little paranoid this year. I've only weighed them occasionally and this is the first time I've written any down. Will say though I'm quite happy with where they are. Lowest average daily gain 0.33 lb/day on the youngest kid in the group (maybe that's normal, maybe it isn't, you can't manage it if you don't measure it). Highest? The triplet runt Boer X doe kid, weighing in at 68 lb right at 4mo, for an ADG of 0.51 lb/day (maybe higher because I've calculated them from a standard 8 lb birth weight and she was not that big, but don't recall her exact weight).
Have an Ober kid right behind her at 60 lb.
I guess we're OK this year but I'm not taking my foot off the gas anytime soon.

May milk test was a challenging test to get done. We had back to back show weekends and I was concerned about that impacting production. Then I was out of town judging and that negatively impacted production.

In the summer months, we rely heavily on grazing. The grass is out there. I hate the idea of feeding hay when pasture is plentiful, even though the goats would definitely prefer to stay in the barn (under the fans) and eat. I also don't expect those holding down the fort at home while I'm gone to do things like feed hay. So, when I returned from judging last weekend, and it had rained most of the time, the goats looked absolutely terrible and had no milk. (But they were all alive and that technically was the bar...)

I had another judging trip this weekend so wanted to get them back on track and get this May test in fast last Thursday. Although the numbers aren't what they were the previous two tests, I think this is roughly where things will start to settle out for the summer months. This is the reality of management not exactly contributing to success.

Infinity jumped into the lead. She had mastitis her first test but you wouldn't know it now. Delilah had been a once-a-day milker due to her production being extremely low as a milk through, however she has suddenly rebounded strongly and is back to twice a day. Imagine and Ivalyn right up there in production still.

One of my goals in going on test was to see lactation curves and how various changes could impact production. I've made a few changes to try to get our butterfat up and at some point maybe I'll try giving them alfalfa as their primary forage to see if that keeps our production from tanking in the summer. Heat and humidity have also kicked in here. IMO the early tests showcase we have the genetics for decent production, but have some improvements to make in management to keep that consistency through the summer. Realistically without a consistent milk market there is not a financial justification to feeding more alfalfa than we currently do, so we may just keep status quo for now.

She's pretty sure her full name is "dammit Delilah" 🤣

Imagine finished early last year so hasn't been out a whole lot. Now that she has CH on her papers, I'm trying to get her out on occasion when champion challenge is available. However, she's made it quite clear she's not a fan of the show deal- at Nationals last year she ended up having pneumonia, and at our first show out this year she looked miserable (even milked out) until we got home. My default response is, well you'll just have to come to EVERY show now to get used to it 😅, but it's not worth that. Believe we're done showing until July/August anyways.

There is very little, if anything, I would change about Imagine's general appearance. She is rock solid with great feet and legs. Deep heels, tight toes that point directly forward. Level at rest and on the move. Stylish. Productive and well-attached mammary system too, although I would take closer teat placement.

Her son Impulse (AI sire Ober-Boerd Kissed by a Kobra) is here as our junior herdsire.

Imagine's twin doe kids this year were sold to two different relatively new goat families. ❤️ I am not afraid to sell my BEST and am even proud to do that. I have my own reasons for the decisions of how many and which kids stay, but I love getting my best kids out into new homes where my genetics can shine for somebody else and get them a great start into dairy goats. While all my doe kids are gone for this year, I am taking reservations (interest list) for next year. I'll probably start retaining a few more doe kids moving forward but will still have plenty of high quality babies available.

I do have two experimental Imagine grandsons available, sired by Impulse and out of CH Dotty.
