Too true!!! Hattie is constantly watching over her animals and visitors- she tracks the sky, the coyote fence line, the bobcat den line and all the wandering kittens all day long- she even follows her mom on her runs in the neighborhood half the time to keep an eye on where she’s going!! Pyrs are truly fascinating- fun fact- if we don’t introduce Hattie to the animals we bring onto the farm, she will chase them off or kill them because she doesn’t think they belong- if we introduce her and let them know they’re ours she folds them right into her bubble!!

🐾 Did you know a Great Pyrenees doesn't just recognize its flock... it memorizes every member of it?
For centuries, Great Pyrenees were bred to guard livestock without human supervision. That meant they couldn't simply chase away every moving animal—they had to know exactly who belonged and who didn't. A good guardian learned to recognize each sheep, goat, chicken, and even the people it protected. That's one of the reasons modern Pyrs pay such close attention to their families.
Ever wonder why your Pyr notices when someone comes home late, follows the kids from room to room, or suddenly starts watching a visitor the moment they walk through the door? They're not being nosy—they're doing exactly what generations of Great Pyrenees were bred to do. 🐑
In your dog's mind, they're taking attendance all day long. 😂 "Mom? Present. Dad? Present. Kids? Safe. Cat? Still causing trouble. Mail carrier? Definitely not on today's approved list... bark first, ask questions never!"
That incredible awareness is one of the reasons Great Pyrenees are considered among the world's best natural livestock guardian breeds. They don't just guard a place—they guard the individuals they believe are part of their flock. Once you're on that list, they'll watch over you with unwavering loyalty... even if you never asked for a full-time fluffy bodyguard. ❤️🐾
