THSBA BOAT CAPTAIN SIDEPOT

Boat Captains now have an opportunity to compete for their own Big Fish Sidepot during every THSBA Regular Season Open Tournament!

💵 Entry Fee
• $20 per captain
• Enter during tournament check-in
• Cash or check only

🐟 How It Works
• Captains may weigh in one (1) fish for the Boat Captain Big Fish Sidepot.
• The captain's fish must remain completely separate from the anglers' catch at all times by using either a cull tag or a divided livewell.

🏆 Sidepot Payout
• 50% of the pot is awarded to the Boat Captain Big Fish Winner.
• 50% is awarded as a THSBA Scholarship to the 4th Place Angler Team at that tournament.

⚠️ Important Reminders
• Boat Captains may participate in the Sidepot only during THSBA Regular Season Open Tournaments.
• Boat Captains may not fish during Regional Championships or the THSBA State Championship.
• A captain's fish may never be placed in or contribute to an angler's tournament bag.

🚨 Rule Enforcement
Contributing a captain's fish to an angler's tournament bag is illegal in the State of Texas and falls under tournament fraud classifications. Any captain found contributing to an angler's tournament catch will be immediately disqualified, and the incident will be referred to the appropriate local law enforcement agency for investigation.

Thank you to all of our Boat Captains for the time and dedication you give to our student anglers.

Protect the integrity of our sport. Fish honestly, follow the rules, and help us ensure a fair competition for every angler.

A Heartfelt Plea for Boat Captains, Shore Volunteers & Donors

The C.A.S.T. for Kids event on Lake Grapevine is coming up, and they are looking for boat captains, shore volunteers, and donors who want to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children with special needs.

This event gives kids a chance to experience something many of them have never had before — a joyful day on the water, a fishing rod in their hands, and a community cheering them on. Every child receives a rod, tackle box, event shirt, and an award, all at no cost to their family.
But none of this happens without people like you.

If you have a boat, your presence as a captain can create memories a child will carry for years. If you prefer to help on shore, your support keeps the event running smoothly and makes families feel welcomed and celebrated. And if you’re able to donate, your generosity directly provides the gear and resources that make this day possible.

This is your chance to make a difference.

Whether you captain a boat, volunteer on shore, or contribute financially, you become part of a day that lifts children up and reminds them they are capable, valued, and loved.
Lake Grapevine’s CAST for Kids event is coming soon — and we cannot do it without you.

Learn more or sign up: castforkids.org/events/lakegrapevine

Give a donation that directly impacts a child: castforkids.org/donate

Thank you for helping us create a day of joy, confidence, and unforgettable memories for these amazing kids. Your involvement truly changes lives.

📢 2026–2027 THSBA RULES ARE NOW AVAILABLE

The official 2026–2027 THSBA Rules have been posted on the THSBA website!

Very few changes were made from last season, but it is important that all anglers and boat captains read and understand the rules before the season begins.

When setting up your season profile and signing the Release of Liability, each angler and boat captain agrees that they have read, understand, and will follow the THSBA Rules.

🟨 WHAT CHANGED?
Anything highlighted in the Rules PDF identifies a change or update from last season that you should review.

🎣 KEY UPDATES FOR 2026–2027

1️⃣ Tournament Entry Fee: $85
Tournament entry fees are now $85, a $10 increase per angler. Anglers will see that additional funding returned through increased scholarships offered at our Championship events.

2️⃣ Regional Championship Qualification: Top 45%
The top 45% of AOY teams in each division will now advance to their Regional Championship. This is a 5% increase from last season.

There is no change to the percentage advancing from Regionals to the State Championship.

3️⃣ All 5 Regular Season Events Count Toward AOY
The previous “drop your lowest tournament” format has been removed.

For 2026–2027, Angler of the Year standings will be calculated using all 5 regular season events.

⚠️ KNOW THE RULES

These are only a few of the key updates. Every angler and boat captain is responsible for knowing and following the complete THSBA Rules.

Before you hit the water this season, read the rules, review the highlighted changes, and know them!
