Turkeys are very active foragers. From the moment they wake up, they are hunting. Anything that moves, anything that is smaller than a marble, they’re gonna eat it. Many tiny insects, rocks, leaves, shrubs, mushrooms, sticks, frogs; they’re going to eat it all.
We keep them moving so their buffet stays open 7 days a week. While they move, they’re dropping fertilizer out of their back end onto the pasture while simultaneously enriching their bodies with nutrients and minerals not found in conventionally raised turkey. Plus, they’re super fun and personable to hangout with.
Often, when we’re out working on their little pasture palace, they follow us around, chirping and grazing as close to us as possible.
We have about 80 deposits still open, and that is it for the year! You can reserve yours on the website.

Finally, we taste the fall mornings out here. For what feels like 57 years, it’s been summer. Start sweating by 9am, hit delirium by noon, and become some sort of farm robot - putting one step in front of the other for the rest of the day as you remind yourself something out here will die if you don’t finish the job.
We have an incredible team of farm robots who have done an incredible job out here this summer, supported by the team in our little farm store, “Pete’s Market”.
As much as this store has opened the doors for more people to come visit us out here, it’s become an air conditioned oasis for the farmers to run to the second they get a break. Who knew an espresso machine and hot breakfast burritos could lift the agrarian spirit? It can and it has.

If you haven’t made it out to the farm in a while, or you came during the summer and melted, I would encourage you to come visit in this beautiful weather. Everything is better now. The critters and farmers are enjoying it more, the bone broth actually seems appetizing, and the farm dogs are spending the same amount of time trying to steal some pets.

This weekend, we were invited to the inaugural Animal Conference in Oklahoma City. What a great time! The team at the Kirkpatrick Foundation created an event so purposefully, bringing together conservationists, ranchers, entrepreneurs, lawyers, educators, et al; to share the incredible things being done on behalf of animals around the country.

The Keynote speech given by Temple Grandin, an academic who has dedicated her life to improving the animal handling practices at the largest packing plants in the country. Let me tell you something, hearing a passionate 79 year old autistic woman tell you exactly how she upturned the beef processing industry with blunt honesty and conviction, we won’t soon forget it. What a legend.

We were honored to receive this years’ award for Farmers and Ranchers making a difference in animal husbandry and ethical farming. We even got to see our friends at FARMBAR receiving another well-deserved accolade for their dedication to sourcing local!
