Finally I have a dozen ready! Molting has been so bad. I’m making no guarantees of how long it will take me to make another dozen with how things have gone this last week😂 Yes, there are three eggs that look two toned in this dozen. I nicknamed them my little cosmic eggs when I collect them🪐

This dozen +2 extra $40
East League City/Kemah pickup only

The silkies are in the brooder! I like to spill their food on the ground when teaching them to eat and I splash around the water with my finger and that helps them take their first drinks. Once they clean up all this food, they will look for it in the actual feeder. So that’s why it’s a mess 😜 One silkie has splay leg, so I have an elastic with a straw bringing those legs in together. Can you spot the chick? It’s doing very well since I did that yesterday and has now found its footing with those on.

I have been putting down glass bowls in the run so that grass can grow under them and then they can snack and dig around a bit once I move it. I have a few I move around the run. It’s a good little snack they enjoy without overdoing it. They also got fresh basil everyday this weekend from my plant and some crushed red pepper flakes. I collect the packets of crushed red pepper flakes when we order pizza fyi… cheap way to give them a snack that also helps with internal parasites😉

Picture of KEVIN. Yes, it’s a girl. Everytime I post her name people tell me that’s not a rooster, like I’m an idiot🙃 She is named after Kevin from the Disney movie Up. IYKYK.

Somehow the hens molting has gotten worse this week😒 I got 3 eggs in 2 days😭 I have a list of people waiting on eggs, so please be patient as they hopefully start laying regularly soon. I apologize! This is exactly why I don’t do preorders. I let nature do what it will do and I will list as they lay.

My little silkie eggs I had shipped to me are starting to pip🤎 Out of 18 eggs, 8 developed and made it to lockdown.

Unpopular and controversial opinion for many hatchers, I am thrilled I have 8 that went into lockdown. Think of what they went through traveling by truck, plane and any temperature fluctuations, etc. I see so many people complain on chicken pages when they don’t have every egg hatch or even most hatch. Hatching eggs is a gamble. I have spent a pretty penny and had only 2 hatch and then they passed, leaving me ZERO chicks from that order. That sucked. But, I didn’t go after the breeder or smear their name, either. Just food for thought! I know some may have seen we had 18 sent, and we got down to the 8. Now to see who and what hatches 🤎

I share so many egg photos, I figured I may as well try and get most of the ladies and Oxford together and get a video of them for everyone. Some of the hens are used as our eating eggs (Brahma, Orpington, our cross beak Easter Egger, etc.) The rest are used in the breeding program. They LOVE when I water the garden and then let the hose make puddles to stand in and cool off and to drink out of.

This latest hatching dozen has TWO of my purple bloom laying hens eggs! I will post a video to the comments showing what I mean. I haven’t seen her eggs for too long due to molting and she is back online and going strong, giving me an egg yesterday and today.
What you can expect from our hatching eggs are a lot of moody colors, some with blooms, some with speckles, many with both😍 These rainbow dozens include mostly multigen olive eggers, and a few may be backcross olive eggers, f1 olive eggers and a possibility of an egg from our one fibro lady.

This dozen is $40. Pickup is in the East League City/Kemah area only. No shipping.

I spy a little bloom on that olive egg! That is my purple bloom layer. Sometimes it is so heavy that it is a pastel purple color. I was just telling someone yesterday she must be molting because I haven’t collected one of these heavy blooms from her in about a month. Hopefully that means the ladies are all nearly finished molting and egg production can pick back up🤞🏻

I candled the silkie eggs the other day. I tossed out 10 duds and kept 8 growing and bouncy babies. Here’s a little video you can show your kids, or if you’ve never seen candled eggs, you can also enjoy and learn!
