Christmas vacation time! It still means work for us but now we have our helpers back! They helped feed our 2 new heifers this morning and helped give vaccines for our dry up cows! 🤩
I had a welcome surprise this morning. This girl calved on Tuesday, went down with milk fever Wednesday. Our vet gave us some goodies to get her going. Yesterday she was laying out flat and it didn’t look good. Steve got her rolled up and this morning she is up walking around!! While she still looks rough I am happy to see her up moving! 🥳🥳
6 calves in 12 hrs!! 😳 it has been an extra busy week this week for me, so shoutout to my husband, brother and hired hand (who is pretty much family at this point!) for helping me out and picking up what I haven’t been able to get done!! I am so happy to have you guys on my team!! 🥰
Just minding my own business raking manure out of our heifer pens stall so I can scrape it…. Apparently I was too quiet 🙄🤪😳🫣
Meet Fifi! This is Frannie’s sister!
It’s been a rough few weeks. We have had to say goodbye to Leona, Olive, Whitney and little Noreen who you never got to meet. It never gets easier. I have been having a hard time wanting to come to the barn. While I am still sad, having Nutmeg greet me this morning reminded me that there are still good times and I still have cows/babies that need my love!
Meet Zsa Zsa! She is a very aggressive eater!
I have some pretty great helpers!
It’s a sad day when an old barn falls. This is where it all started! My Father in law said they use to milk 100 cows here hopefully the other half with the old parlor stays up! They think it was built in the 1800s
😍😍😍 pumpkin gave me nutmeg!
Our close up (expecting mamas) have a nice fluffy straw pack and had a hard time wanting to get out of bed! They have a smaller one they use during the day. Why you ask? They get lazy and don’t like to travel to their feed very far (which same here 🤣) we need to make sure they are eating to help this babies!
This is Horace! Last year he went to my kids school for their petting zoo. This pretty boy has sure grown a lot since then! 🥹
I feel your struggle girl! Your hungry but you don’t want to get out of bed 🤭
Betty has a cute little underbite 😍 I love little calf teeth!
Farm tour yesterday and visiting our kids school for their fall fest! Moxie loved the attention but Sherman did not! It was great to watch the kids love on them 🥹
I just can’t get over these Jersey/Holstein/Norwegian Red calves! I think I’m gonna name her Nora! 😘
I hope her baby has her hair! 😜
Early morning head scratches ✅ Bug up the nose ✅ Bug to the eye ✅ Happy sunday!!
Love having my little helpers! Most kids like to sleep in on the weekends but our kids like to get up and help us with chores! I know as they get older it will change so I’m super grateful for these moments! 🥰
Moxie no longer has a curled ear but her cuteness hasn’t faded!! 🥹
I think the smell of the new silage is making our girls act goofy 🤪
We said goodbye to our old feed truck and welcomed a new to us one! Our feed truck works hard feeding our cows/heifers everyday so there is definitely a lot of wear and tear!
Every morning I get greeted by a different calf! Luckily I enjoy the welcoming committees 😉
3 newborns so far this morning 🫣 so while I’m waiting on colostrum to thaw and running around getting my other daily chores done I’m happy to have that extra boost this morning! I love that they are veteran owned! (I learned about them listening to mike rowe’s podcast!)
My youngest watched this mama have her baby. She came and let me know when she had had it. After she told me it was born she asked “mommy can we keep it?” Well who am I deny her that! 🤨
Loretta had a lot of doubters after she had her first baby. She was skinny and just didn’t look very healthy. I am stubborn and wasn’t willing to give up on her (or any other of our girls/guys). Now today I looked at her cow card and she gave 148 # of milk yesterday 😳 I am so proud of her and all the others that have overcome a lot!
This sweet baby was born with a floppy ear! I’m gonna name her moxie because she has a lot of it!
When your hairstyle is on point 😉🤣
Sometime our calves don’t make the best decisions! Billie had her head caught through 2 panels 🤦🏻♀️
That deep sleep is for real with her 🥱😴
As I was feeding these guys I kept thinking we now offer small, medium and large calves 🤣🤣
Can you tell our Holstein’s our heavily influenced by our jersey’s 🤦🏻♀️
Grug and Harold are the best of buddies!
Lloyds little underbite is so cute! Loretta gave me a cutie 🥰
Did I crap my pants when I heard footsteps behind me….why yes, yes I did 🫣
I was afraid this post was going to be coming….this is petunia and may when they were babies. Today may was reunited with her sister. When a cow has twins it’s a lot harder to recover especially when you are 10 years old. So Rest In Peace may we hope petunia was there to greet you! 😭
Pip is up and drank some milk this morning! She’s still a little weeble wobble but the fact she is up and walking around gives me some hope! 🤩
Meet my new little friend pip! She was born 34 days early 😱 please say a prayer that I have the skills to help her live a nice long life!
May had her babies! Meet July the heifer and august the bull! 😍😍
