Hi! My name is Sarah and I live in northeast Indiana. Spirit Wind Farm is my little hobby farm that currently consists of 7 horses, 4 Nubian dairy goat does, 1 Nubian buck, around 5 chickens, 2 Anatolian Shepherd Dogs, a Doberman, a Standard Poodle, an indoor cat, and a barn cat. And whatever goat and horse babies I have fore sale. I've always been passionate about horses and bought my first horse, Spirit, in 2005. I bought my second horse, Gunner, a year later. I lived in town so I had to board my horses for 2 years until I found a place in the country. I am legally blind and was a young widowed mother so my horses were my therapy. The 4 acre property I bought came with a horse, Shade, so my little herd grew to three. The huge bank barn was complete with a rooster so I bought a few more chickens. I was devastated by a horrific barn fire at the end of my first winter here in which I lost that beautiful barn and all my chickens and several cats. God blessed me and spared my children (who had just been playing in the barn), my horses (who I had just let out of their stalls), and my dogs (who I was able to get out of the kennel attached to the barn). I had one other large empty pole barn so the horses still had shelter. I rebuilt another small barn as those old bank barns can never be replaced! I remarried in 2010 and my family grew from 2 kids to 4 and my furry family grew as well. Although I don’t buy horses to resell, I find home for rescues once they're ready. If a horse I buy ends up not being a good fit for us I would find a better home for them and I have 2 mares I breed and sell their foals. My first horse, Spirit, passed away from chronic colic and ended up going septic after having a foal in 2014. When I added goats to my farm and needed to come up with a herd name, I named my farm after Spirit. I looked into registering as a non-profit organization with the government and becoming a 501(c)(3) but this is my personal home and farm and registering as a 501(c)(3) business gives the government control and if the business ever "went under" they could force me to sell my barns! Plus it costs over $1000 ($1800 if I have someone do it for me) to register a business and become a 501(c)(3) which I can't afford. Even if I could afford that, I would rather put that money toward the animals! Any and all donations of any kind for rescues are still needed and greatly appreciated! (NOTE: I currently do not have any rescues due to the lack of funds and space.) Rescues I have had can be seen in their own album in the photo albums section. Animals I now own for life, Lord willing, are- 7 horses: Gunner (dun, cowbred Quarter Horse gelding), Isis (“white”, Arab/Quarter Horse cross mare), Gambit (dark bay/white, Tennessee Walker gelding), Pneuma (palomino, Tennessee Walker/Haflinger/Quarter Horse cross mare), Raine AKA Mist Moore Scotch (blue roan solid paint mare), Storm (dark bay/white Tennessee Walker gelding), and Legend AKA Ghostwind Starfall (white few spot Ghost Wind Appaloosa stallion). 4 Nubian Dairy goat does: Martini, Faith (for sale due to downsizing), Abercrombie, and Daiquiri 1 Nubian Dairy goat buck- Bernie 4 Dogs: Dangleberry AKA Berr (apricot Anatolian Shepherd neutered male), Athena (fawn with liver mask Anatolian Shepherd spayed female), Phantom (cream and white Doberman intact male), and Prince (black Standard Poodle intact male). An indoor cat, Vodka (Lilac Point Siamese, spayed female)
A barn cat, Jet (striped tabby neutered male). Layer Chickens
