A little quieter around here lately, and I think the changing of the seasons has a lot to do with it.
Since the frost, I’ve found myself stepping back a little. My body is tired, but it’s the kind of tired that feels earned. I love this homestead, and I love the life we’re building here, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t ready to start putting the gardens to bed for the season. There’s something comforting about shifting gears — moving from planting and growing to digging, dividing, storing, and preparing for everything we hope to grow next year.
My work here is far from over, but there’s a natural lull settling in, and for once, I’m trying to let myself embrace it instead of rushing straight into the next thing.
My family, my home, and my career have all needed a little more of me lately, and the timing just feels right to give those parts of my life some extra attention while the farm begins its slower season.
That doesn’t mean things have stopped growing around here, though. We still have beautiful cool-weather blooms brightening our days, we’re downsizing our ever-growing flock of birds, and I’m slowly chipping away at the enormous task of digging dahlia tubers. Current progress: 6 out of 77 plants. 💀😂
There’s still plenty to do, plenty to look forward to, and so much to be grateful for.
So if things feel a little quieter around here for a while, just know we’re still here, still working. 🫶🏻
