World Soil Day is the perfect day to spotlight the lush pastures and healthy soils stewarded by Judy Gifford and Bob Fry at St. Brigid’s Farm in Kennedyville, Maryland, protected by Eastern Shore Land Conservancy since 2015! St. Brigid’s prime agricultural soils are living life to the fullest every day of the year, not held static beneath solar panels, but being roamed, grazed, and replenished as permanent pasture for herds of outstanding Jersey milking cows, heifers, steers, and calves. Perennial rye grass, orchard grass, and clover are intensively grazed at St. Brigid’s from April through November resulting in beef that is four times higher in Vitamin E and ten times higher in Carotene antioxidants compared to grain-fed beef. Farmers like Judy and Bob are the reason our Eastern Shore soils remain healthy and productive!
