We're incredibly proud to celebrate our Winemaker, Irving Mendoza, on being named a recipient of the 2026 Walter J. Clore Scholarship by the Washington Winegrowers.

Irving's journey with Badger Mountain & Powers Winery began in 2015 in the barrel room. Through years of hard work, dedication, and a passion for winemaking, he grew into the role of Winemaker in 2022. Today, he's continuing to expand his knowledge through Yakima Valley College's Winery Technology Certificate Program while leading the production of our wines.

This recognition is a testament to Irving's commitment to his craft and to the future of Washington wine. Please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved honor! 👏🍷

On behalf of the Washington Winegrowers Board of Directors, congratulations to Irving Mendoza of Yakima Valley College on receiving this year's Walter J. Clore Scholarship.

Established in 1997 by the Winegrowers, the scholarship honors Dr. Walter J. Clore's pioneering contributions to Washington viticulture and enology and supports students pursuing wine-related education.

Irving brings more than a decade of winemaking experience, beginning his career in the barrel room at Badger Mountain & Powers Winery in 2015. He advanced to Assistant Winemaker in 2021 and became Winemaker in 2022. Currently enrolled in the Winery Technology Certificate Program at Yakima Valley College, Irving is continuing to expand his knowledge and expertise while contributing to the future of Washington's wine industry.

Congratulations, Irving, and best wishes for your continued success!

Irving is one of 10 recipients of scholarships managed by the Washington Wine Industry Foundation. Winegrowers also extends congratulations to each of them! Since 2002, over half a million dollars has been awarded to over 250 Washington students with $40,000 in scholarships awarded this year.

We've received a lot of questions recently, so we wanted to clear up some misinformation and share an update.

Yes, our original estate vineyard is currently being removed. As many of you know, the vineyard is located in the middle of a growing residential neighborhood, and the property is being developed.

However, Badger Mountain Vineyard & Winery and Powers Winery are not closing.

We are still producing wine, selling wine online and through retailers across the country, and continuing our commitment to crafting exceptional Washington wines.

While we are saddened to see our original estate vineyard come to an end, its legacy will continue. Before redevelopment began, we completed a 1-to-1 replanting of the vineyard on the other side of Badger Mountain. In fact, cuttings from the original estate vines were used to establish portions of the new vineyard, creating a direct connection between the past and the future of our vineyards.

Today, those vines are already established and growing, ensuring that the spirit of our estate vineyard lives on for generations to come.

This vineyard has been part of our story for decades, and saying goodbye is not easy. But while we are honoring its history, we are also excited for what lies ahead. The new vineyard represents the next chapter of our journey, one that allows us to continue growing, farming, and making the wines you know and love.

Thank you for your support as we begin this next chapter. We hope you'll enjoy these photos of the vineyard that's carrying our story into the future.
