RCK FOODS – A HISTORICAL LOOK
Originally known as Roundy’s Commissary, this facility was built in 2005 and began operating in early 2006. We manufactured items that were distributed to our Roundy’s Supermarkets retail stores under the banners Pick ‘N Save, Rainbow, Copp’s, and Metro Market. The operation began with two simple items, ice and bottled water and we employed just over 20 associates. Former CEO of Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. Bob Mariano, had a vision and wanted a place where we could make our own products, fresh, and to the highest of standards and so additional lines were added one at a time beginning with Ice Cream, marinated chicken and sausage in mid-2006. Then came the sour cream/yogurt, deli and soup in 2007-2008. In 2010, Gelato and Bakery were added. Also in 2010, Roundy’s Supermarkets opened a new chain of stores called Mariano’s. Finally, in 2013 the Chef’s Collection prepared food department started up. And that is how we grew into the unique food manufacturing facility that you see today.
In December of 2015, Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. merged with The Kroger Co. and we became RCK Foods, a division of Kroger Manufacturing. In 2017, we discontinued several of our lines including Ice Cream, Juice, Water, Sour Cream and Yogurt in order to make room for our Soup line expansion and the opportunity to sell soup at a national level. Today this facility employs over 200 associates and continues to grow. We are very excited to see what’s next for this great facility.
