Friends, if you've been following us for a while now, you're familiar with the story of our sinister black Sexlink chicken, her 3 Doppelgangers (the Rabble-Rousers), and the "Rabble-Rouser Roadhouse" (also known as the small red coop). This is the coop where Bluey and friends stay, while Rachel et al have been moved over to Cluckingham Palace.

Well, a few weeks back, we decided it was time for Bluey and friends to start mingling with the others and it's been relatively uneventful...Until today!!!

You see, Rachel is kind of a trouble maker and leader of the pack, if you will. Conversely, Bluey is a very aloof and quiet bird who likes, actually, to be mostly by herself. BUT, these past few days, we've been catching Rachel taking Bluey aside, as if to gain her confidence. Tonight, the result is that we now know why. Rachel has BULLIED Bluey into giving up her spot in the Roadhouse. Kicked her out, as it were! I panicked when I couldn't find Bluey at bedtime headcount...and then I realized RACHEL was where she shouldn't be, so I sprinted around looking for Bluey and found her on the undesirable lowest rung in Cluckingham Palace looking all forlorn next to old lady V. Poor Bluey! That evil, evil Rachel!!! 😈 🐔

🚨 Red alert, Rachel Fans! A naughty little Perrigrene Falcon was sitting on the post at the ladies' coop yard, scoping them out 😲!!! As I attempted to come outside, he/she hopped down to the ground and hid behind the coop before taking flight, but then circling back around and landing right there on a nearby post! The nerve! Rachel asked for armaments, so I am critically weighing this request....🤔

Happy Labor Day, folks! While we know the vast majority of farmers definitely work 7 days a week, it is a Labor of love! Nonetheless, we hope you find a way to relax today and reflect on the fact that this country's economy depends heavily on the average worker. We appreciate you!

I was starting to get a little concerned about the chicks we got back in early May; two have matured into bright red combs, which indicates they should be laying eggs. I've never seen any, however...until tonight. Typically, I've just been glancing into the nest boxes nearest the door when I check on them before final nighttime "tuck in." Tonight, I decided to lift the nest box roof and found they've been laying after all, just in the box farthest away from where I usually check.

This discovery tells me that 1) one of the hens sold as a Prairie Bluebell (blue eggs layer) actually isn't 😥, and 2) at least THIS Majestic Maran will not be a dark brown egg layer. Well shucks!

We absolutely LOVE hearing from folks who have purchased our goats and the success they have with them! This young man has been showing a few years now, and even previously took one of our junior LaManchas his grandma bought for him all the way to the S.D. State Fair!

This year, he won big at the Brown County, S.D. Fair with a daughter of Lucy, our sole Alpine that had moved all the way from VA to SD with us. Lucy had strong Munchin Hill and some Iron Rod genetics, and their combo with a strong sire resulted in a lovely, correct Alpine junior.

Congratulations to this young man on his great success! He is turning into quite the skilled showman!

We couldn't have been more proud to attend the Wilkin County Fair this morning to watch our friends show their goats for the first time in 4-H Dairy Goat Showmanship with the goats they purchased from us this Spring. It was clear that they really worked hard and truly cared about their goats, "Daisy" and "Muffin." Congratulations, to you both; we can't wait to see your progress next year!

Local friends, We just had a sweet little baby girl born WAY out of season......as a result, we are searching for another "oopsie" baby as a companion for her.... can be a lamb or kid.....but has to be under a week old. And must come from a clean, disease free herd. Please pm if you have, or know of anyone who has, a potential BFF for baby Hope.

Whatcha know about pickled beets?? There's really only 2 things to know...... first, we have them......second, they are amazing..... ok, ok, there is a third thing, this recipe was my dad's.....and Calvin was never wrong about pickled beets...so, there's only one thing to do at this point.... TRY THEM!!!!!! You can pick up at the farm, at one of our vendor events or catch us when we are in Fargo, Wahpeton or Fergus Falls. But don't wait too long..... I may eat them all!
