It was a pleasure to serve as show secretary in Ring 1 with Judge Elizabeth Beck at the Red River Valley Fair ADGA Dairy Goat show. Gorgeous animals and excellent show coordinators Patrick and Will Bachmeier. Congratulations to all those who won and to all exhibitors who gave their best! A perfect way to spend the 4th! 🐐 🇺🇸

Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸 🎆

Buttercup is no longer a "baby," but she IS a very important part of our milking herd. This one of our favorite pictures of all time, and she still hopes your having a safe and Happy Fourth!

Many of you know that in addition to goats, we have chickens. Occasionally, we get a few chicks once a year to fill in the flock with younger hens and this years additions are 2 Prairie Bluebells and 3 Midnight Majesty Marans (dark brown egg layers).

Today was the right of passage whereby Rachael and her Rabble-Rousers had to move into Cluckingham Palace and Bluey and friends took over the Red Roadhouse. No one seemed particularly happy, but hey: change is hard! 😉

Anyway, for friends out there who have chickens, if you haven't discovered coffee grounds as part of your layered bedding system, combined with a bottom layer of First Saturday (or any, really) Lime and topped off with H**p bedding (a tad more expensive, but lasts longer,performs WAAYYY better than shavings, and is far more absorbent!!!), you're missing out! The coffee grounds also help keep down the flies, which is also awesome!

Where are our manners? We forgot to make a post for all of the human dads, goat dads, and so on! Today, we hope you were celebrated in style! We recently lost our best buck/"goat dad," but he has left a legacy of beautiful daughters that are significant improvements to our herd! R.I.P, Corty; you were one of the good guys!

Gardening aficionados: What do you do to keep whatever vermin (ground squirrel? Rabbits? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️) it is that completely destroyed our melon plants away? This happened last year as well, but just to the melon vines. We thought maybe moving them would help, as last year, caging them off really seemed to stifle their growth. Interested in hearing suggestions, please!

We are so thankful to have been spared from much of the recent severe weather, and are grateful for the rain. Just overnight, a less than 30 minute rain brought out lots of beautiful flowers and blossoms in the garden! Now if these biting 🪰 would spare the poor goats and guardian dogs!

We'll be bring some of our luxurious 🐐 🥛 🧼 from The Grubby Goat Soap Company and early season jams, sauces, syrup and cookies from High Prairie Dairy Goats and Farmstead ! Come out and grab some of our Goat Cheese Sugar Cookies or yummy Rhubarb Cookies! Making and canning Rhubarb Syrup this morning for you all to try; perfect on pancakes and waffles!! 😋 Hope you can stop by on your way up to the FM Metro or out to the lake!
