We had a great afternoon sharing the store with Cody! So thankful for the opportunity he gave us to share our story with all of you!

A rural Stephenson County family has turned a pumpkin patch, garden and a love of canning into a seasonally changing farm store, where unusual flavors, homemade treats and affordable pumpkins invite their customers to discover something new.

It has been a bit since I’ve introduced ourselves and we have a good deal of new faces here! My name is Elise and along with my husband John we set out on a crazy adventure to grow our own pumpkins 8 years ago. After a terrible and expensive experience at a local pumpkin place (who are no longer in business) I looked at John and said that we could have grown our own pumpkins for the price we paid. So, with a husband who never says no and a credit card we started growing our own! Initially, I planted 100s of plants in pots indoors and transplanted them outside by hand. Which took hours and did not work at all. We had minuscule harvests the first two years.

Our third year we figured out a way to plant pumpkins with John’s corn planter. With a ton of faith and hope we harvested an amazing crop! From there, we continued to improve on the efficiency of planting which has allowed us to provide you with a large selection of homegrown pumpkins.

Then three years ago on another whim, we decided to redo the small “cat shed” and turn it into the pumpkin shed with my homemade canned goods. I’ve loved creating new recipes to share and hear about your experiences with all the items!

This year has been no exception as to the ups and downs that come with relying on the weather for business. The crop is minimal which breaks my heart but we’ve been so thankful to the community that is still rallying around us despite everything! I’ve loved just about every minute of this project, getting to meet so many people and sharing this life with our two kids. I’m so thankful to God, all of you and my amazing husband for all of the support and love with my crazy ideas.

Let’s see those pumpkin displays!

I always love making a display at our house, but I felt terrible taking pumpkins from you all since we didn’t have an over abundance. So as we sorted pumpkins I took the ones with blemishes but I think they still look fantastic!
