Good Saturday Evening from Kents Hill Orchard. Well, we have to change course and Pick-Your-Own Apple season ends today. The wind from the last few days, followed by a big crowd today, left very few apples available for PYO customers. So, sadly, the PYO season has come to an end today.

Anyone who still wants to pick up drops may still sign a liability waiver in the PYO shack behind the AppleShed Kitchen and pick drops at no charge. Do not pick from under the trees with red flagging tape until after October 19th.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 713-3055.

Good Morning from Kents Hill Orchard friday October 9th! Thank you to all who have visited and come to pick apples this season. This was the biggest crop we have seen in 10 years, and there were plenty of fruit to pick.

We will be closing for the season on Friday, October 16th for Pick Your Own. Right now it looks like McIntosh and Senshu are the only varieties left to pick. If you want HoneyCrisp, try Boothbys in Livermore or Chick's in Monmouth. We do not have any Macouns for Pick Your Own.

For the Pick-A-Tree program customers, You will have until Sunday, October 18th to pick your trees.

For those who wish to pick drop apples, you must sign a liability waiver before you can pick. Those forms are located IN the Pick Your Own shack BEHIND the Apple Shed Kitchen. You can pick up apples ONLY in rows 1,2,3 and 9 until October 18th. Once we totally close on October 18th, you can pick anywhere in the orchard.

If you have any questions, feel free to call or text to 713-3055.

This year the Auto Show is celebrating the life of Henry Drake, the owner of Kents Hill Orchard, who passed away last friday at the age of 92. Henry will be missed by many.

Don't forget that the the Appleseed Kitchen will be baking and cooking throughout the day to provide participants with great goodies and c***r, etc.

Finally, don't forget, we have LOTS of apples to pick this year, so come on down, even if you are not interested in the Auto Show.

Good Evening from Kents Hill Orchard..A bit of sad news. Henry Drake, who is the owner of Kents Hill Orchard and the Apple Shed Bakery, passed away last friday night. He was 92 years old. He made a life in Apple Growing, with orchards in Wilton, Livermore and, of course, Kents Hill. I was very grateful to have known Henry, who was one of the best orchardists in the area and just a wonderful person to be around. He is survived by his wife of 70 plus years, Corinne, who originated the Apple Shed Bakery, and his two sons Tim and Terry, and grandchildren. The family still owns the Bakery and Orchard, and leases the orchard to Deb Parry and John Harker, and leases the Bakery to Maureen Thompson and Tom Mathews. Corinne and Family can be reached in writing at 18 Pine St., Farmingdale, ME 04333. Funeral arrangements are still in process. He will be missed.

Good morning from Kents Hill Orchard.

The Pick-A-Tree program is now full. All previous customers who wanted a tree now have their trees lined up. We also ran the lottery yesterday and will be contacting folks who got in within the next day or two. The trees have LOTS of apples on the trees, so come ready to pick and share! This will be a quick early season due to the drought and weather, so drop will come quickly. Best to pick your apples in the next few weeks.

We will start our Pick-Your-Own next Saturday, September 12th at 9am. We will still maintain our low low price of $1.00 per lb for Macs, Cortlands and HoneyCrisp. All will be ready to pick and we have LOTS of apples this year.

This season is quite different than many others. The Trees have outperformed in number of fruit. There will be smaller apples but plenty of good sized ones as well. Also, there will be slightly more apple scabbed apples than in previous years. All in all, there are still many great apples to choose from this year, and we hope you all enjoy the picking, the weather, AND do not forget the AppleShed Kitchen baked goodies that await you.

Looking forward to seeing you soon. Regards, Deb Parry and John Harker.

Good Morning from Kents Hill Orchard. A short update. We will be opening for Pick-Your Own apples on Saturday, September 12th. We will have PLENTY of McIntosh, Cortland and HoneyCrisp apples available this year. We will still maintain our PYO pricing at $1.00 per lb., with bags available in $5, $10, and $20 quantities.

The Pick-A-Tree program Update. We had a good outpouring of interest to our August 2nd posting for the program and the lottery for this season. (That is why we had to take down our posting). Most of our trees were taken by last year's customers and the lottery is now closed for the remaining trees. We expect to do the lottery shortly after August 30th, and will contact those individuals who "win" the lottery sometime shortly thereafter.

This year's growing season has been a challenge. Almost all the trees set a ton of fruit this year, and the continuing drought is starting to cause issues with the apples. The combination will result in smaller fruit, but plenty of them. We also had a challenging pest year. There is much more apple scab on the fruit this year, and some of the trees got hit with a once in a blue-moon Fireblight outbreak. The fortunate part is there are so many apples on the trees, those scabby apples will not impact the overall amount of fruit available for picking!

So, as we wind up for the season, we hope to see many of you back for the PYO harvest, and also remember we will be having the Auto Show on Saturday, Sept 19th (raindate the 20th), and the Family Festival the following week!

Saturday evening beautiful day. The apple blossoms are coming out slowly. Looks like Friday is still full bloom. They are at early pink for McIntosh. A wee bit earlier for Honeycrisp. Lots of flower buds on Honeycrisp and Senshu. Keep your fingers crossed for bees and warm weather for pollination!

Good Evening, it is Tuesday, May 12th. Spring is finally here. The orchard is awakening again, like it does every year. The Trees are looking well. We expect to see full bloom around May 22nd this year. If it is warmer, it may be a bit sooner. The Bloom should last at least 5 days. So, get your calendars out and ready. We will post another update early next week.
