We got our soil test results back from the extension office this week.

Amendments are coming. We're getting the ground ready for fall planting — trying to make it more hospitable for what we're about to put in it.

It got me thinking about the parable of the sower.

I used to pray to be the good soil. Because some days I really feel the lack. I was short with the kids. I wasn't brave enough to introduce myself to someone new. I couldn't get it all done with a smile. Not enough. Poor soil.

But a guest pastor said something recently that really resonated with me.

Jesus never said "Be the good soil."

Seeds grow in all kinds of conditions. Some get every advantage and still wither. Some pop up in the most unlikely places and just take off. And soil changes — it's changed by what it hosts, by what we add to it, by time and rest and new seasons.

So I've stopped praying to be the good soil. I'm asking instead to be the light for the seed — wherever it lands.

Rocky soil and all. 🌱

The wisdom herb:

Sage has long symbolized wisdom, protection, and good health.

Sage holds up beautifully in its dried form:
Brown butter + sage over pasta or gnocchi
Rubbed onto chicken or pork before roasting
Crumbled onto roasted sweet potatoes and sausage

Sage has a long folk history as a digestive herb and has traditionally been used to comfort sore throats.

Try sage, honey and lemon in your teacup.

Grab a bundle of sage at the farm! It's a great addition to bouquets and can be dried to be used in so many ways once the flowers are gone.

The past 10 weeks I’ve been working toward something I’ve held in my heart for a long time- a cut flower farm rooted in beauty, connection, and community.
hosts a business cohort twice a year called The Academy - designed for people with a dream who are ready to do something about it. I’m so grateful I said yes. I’ve been surrounded by knowledgeable leaders and fellow entrepreneurs with the most wonderful creative ideas. I’ve learned business essentials I didn’t know I needed. And I’ve learned some things about myself too. The hardest lesson? Letting go of perfectionism. And learning to ask for help. The second doesn’t come naturally. Here’s what I know now- community isn’t something you find, it’s something you build, together, one conversation and one act of generosity at a time. So I’m building it. This means being honest we need help investing in next years flowers: seeds, peonies, daffodils, ranunculus and the infrastructure to make this dream sustainable. It means asking for help this fall when the peonies, daffodils, and ranunculus arrive, instead of trying to plant them all myself. It means inviting people into the work in progress.
