Hey friends! The intense sun yesterday cooked some of our tomatoes out on the farm stand, but we have a solution for that. 😉 Tomatoes, basil, and garlic from our garden, and beautiful organic onions from our friends at Whisper Hill Farm makes the best marinara 😋

The farm stand was just restocked (noon on 8/1) and there’s plenty of maters out there waiting to go home with you!

(Sorry we missed our regulars at IX today, there just aren’t enough hours in the day and we needed today to play a little catch-up. We’ll see you soon! 😘)

Happy Sunday, folks! We’ve been hard at work this summer and the Farm Stand is stocked with fresh tomatoes and beautiful Lisianthus flowers! 🍅 💐👩🏻‍🌾

Stop on by and get a big juicy mater and enjoy what might just be the best tomato sandwich you’ve ever had. (‘Harvest Moon’ is my personal favorite 🤤) Stand will remain open until 8PM.

How are our Thanksgiving turkeys so delicious? Well perhaps it’s because they are hand-fed mulberries on the regular. 😉😋💜

Today Dad & I went on a field trip to Virginia State University’s Randolph Farm for their annual Farmer Field Day where we were able to tour their high tunnels, cattle herd, and also view some of their test plots in the field.

We found the hydroponics and aquaponics especially interesting, as well as the precision livestock technologies they’re using with their cattle. A single bolus (a sensor that looks like a big pill) is administered orally and rests in the cow’s reticulum, and is able to measure that individual cow’s daily water intake, internal temperature, heat cycles, and can even tell when the cow is going to be calving. 🤯 All of this info is recorded and can be viewed on a cell phone, tablet, or computer. Invisible fence collars were also discussed, eliminating or minimizing the need for expensive fencing.
