We got ahold of the judge’s notes about our Gold Medal from the Sonoma County Harvest Fair. According to their expert opinion, our olive oil is fruity, balanced, complex and clean! They said we did a good job and it is a great oil! When asked if we could improve in any way, the judges said no! So happy and proud to get this news!

Our “babbling brook” as we call the Sonoma Creek that runs through our Kenwood property contributes to the verdant and fertile soil that makes our olive oil so special. Well, I am seeing it today for the first time since this recent atmospheric river, and our sweet little creek has turned into a raging river! The olive trees are loving it.

We picked our olives yesterday! Well, half of them. We got 2200 lbs. Here they are on Highway 12. Kevin follows our olives every year from picking all the way to the mill and watches as they are pressed. Right now the oil is racking. I always thought that meant it was just sitting on a rack and settling but it means a lot more than that! He brought home 5 gallons last night of olio nuovo for us to try and I have to say it is pretty amazing! We will be picking and pressing the rest next Wednesday. And then the bottling! Stay tuned for availability… it should be ready in January or February! Our crop last year was destroyed by that late frost so we are very grateful to Mother Nature right now.

Some of our early attempts at bottling. The olive oil was so pretty and we thought it would be funny to use a flask shape since we are Irish but soon found out that there is a reason olive oil is stored in dark colored glass! It protects the oil from light, one of the three enemies of olive oil. The other two are oxygen and heat. We've come a long way!!
