What a crazy kidding!
Moose went into labor lastnight and had her first kid around 1am. I went out there with her and checked everything and made sure the doeling was nursing and waited patiently for the next one to arrive. She tossed and turned and pushed but nothing ever came. My gut told me to check her at this point because something told me it wasn't normal. I went in and felt a back. I tried to maneuver things around and finally fished out a head. Within a minute a huge buckling was born! She then started to pass her placenta. She stood up and I bumped her belly. I felt no hard thumps to indicate another kid. Wonderful, placenta is out and she is done. Kids are nursing and I can finally go to bed. Fast forward to 930 am and I took our son our to see his new babies. Well Moose was down again and pushing slightly. Uh oh I thought. Something is not right! I told my son I had to check her. Sure enough there was a kid wedged in her pelvis that was presenting back first and was folded in half. In 10 years of kidding, I have never experienced this one! I tried to reposition it but I just couldn't get it. Without trying to panic I got our vet on the phone. They told me both vets we there and to bring her now. I loaded her and the babies off to the vet and my son as well. We got there and Dr. Katie was getting gloved up to quickly inspect. She went in and sure enough she said it was a back presenting. Should wiggled around and tah dah! She got a head! Thank god for her!! She pulled the kid out and unfortunately it had past but she showed me just how it was positioned. Litteraly folded in half with only its back facing the birth canal. My hands were entirely too big to try and fix the situation. I am so thankful to Louisa Veterinary Service, Inc. And their crew for their quick and prompt help on getting this kid out and getting her seen. She has meds on board and is in her stall with her new littles and is doing well!
Happy Friday everyone!! ❤️
