The mares are enjoying being horses again. Tonight they are in a paddock far from their foals, enjoying grass, friendship, and freedom from motherhood. I love these mares so much.

Lots of rain this week. The foals live outside 24/7, but don’t have a run-in shelter to stay dry. They also don’t have dense coats yet, as we are just getting into lower temperatures. The ground is saturated, heavier rain is coming, and they are ready to lie down on dry bedding.

Tonight, the foals are spending the night in the lower barn with their new herd.

Reign and Poppy, and their dams, Annie and Bindi had a beautiful day to be weaned.

Dr. Payge O’Brien, and assistant Autumn, vaccinated the fillies and gave them a little sedative to make the transition less stressful. The fillies can see their dams, but cannot touch them. Everyone is happy and doing well, including me!

Tick Tock, Tick Tock 🕰️🕰️
It’s almost weaning day!

The babies are 5 months old today and ready for the next milestone of being big girls. I’m a little nervous for them, because I have never weaned foals before. But! I have veterinary help, other breeders’ help, and my Edenbrook Farm family to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Here is a photo of our morning routine, which will look different after tomorrow!
