Had a fun morning with Ms. Moore’s Ag class back in February. Got to walk the yard, watch corn being dumped in the pitt, sample a load and check the moisture, also a little trivia to top it off! We loved seeing our Luke Burgess show off the family business to his classmates!

Congratulations to WAVE’s 2024 Ag Business of the Year, Kevil Grain, owned by the Abell Family! This award was sponsored by TVA, and presented by Mr. Derrick Miller!

Kevil Grain, situated between LaCenter and Kevil, in Ballard County, KY, has been in operation for almost 37 years, under the direction of the Abell family!

September 4th, 1987, Kevil Grain was purchased by Bill Abell and his son, Phil, along with his wife, Malissia. They started with 60,000 bushels of storage, in downtown Kevil, and two semi-trucks to haul the grain off that was brought in by local farmers in their bob trucks.

As the years have gone on and times have changed, they have adapted! In 1997, they purchased a farm on Highway 60 and built what is now 2.2 million bushels of storage facility, along with 10 trucks on the road hauling off the corn, soybeans and wheat. Millions of bushels roll across the scales each year, staying within our community. Ever expanding and working hard to meet the needs of customers, who feel more like family, is the main goal for Phil and Malissia. Something that stands out to growers is Malissia’s ability to market the grain for her customers. She offers her knowledge, and information, to their customers, to make selling decisions. Phil has always specialized in the logistics of the company. Keeping trucks on the road, managing the grain that gets hauled out and where to put the grain that comes in. This goes to show that it takes them both as a team to make it all work. That is the key factor for Kevil Grains’ success, it is a family affair. Their children, Sarah and Jordyn, have stepped into roles of their own and have grown up knowing and helping the customers themselves!

At the end of the day, it’s all about helping your neighbors. That is exactly what the Abell family does with their customers and employees. If you have ever crossed paths with Phil or Malissia, you know that they are salt of the earth people, and willing to help anyone, in any way, that they can!

Yesterday 5/30/24 one of our Mack semis lost their battery box cover between Ballard Memorial High School and the LaCenter Dollar Store. We are offering a $50 reward for its return! Thank you!

We’ve had bracelets made in honor of Kenna Bodell. They will be available here at our office to pick up. We will be accepting donations for the bracelets, all money raised goes to the Bodell family.

As most everyone knows, our sweet KyLee Girls sister Kenna, was in a terrible car accident last night. We ask that you pray with us for God to lay His healing hand on Kenna, and wrap KyLee and the rest of the Bodell family in His arms and give them comfort and strength.
We also ask for prayers for the other kids that were involved in the accident. We know they can feel them!

We are needing to find help for the Sample Room. This is in the office, sampling and grading the grain that comes through. It would be seasonal, starting mid September - November. Must be willing to work flexible hours and weekends. Serious inquiry's only. Please come by the office to pick up an application and we will discuss further details. Our current hours are 8-4.
