Only two more chicken tractors left to fill with birds. Both of our brooders are at capacity so it won’t be long before all the tractors are filled. I may have to build another one to fit them all.

We set a group of chicks out this afternoon. Paul has his own technique. I don’t think I can use his method.

This is a gilt that had a litter two days before the snow hit. She did a fantastic job of keeping her little ones warm and they all made it through ok. I just had to add a little fresh bedding every day so they stayed warm and dry.

⚠️ Tips for Visiting

Arrive earlier for the best selection. Popular items go fast, especially produce.

Bring cash and reusable bags. Some vendors may not take cards, or may prefer cash for smaller purchases.

Dress for the weather — shade is limited, so hats/sunscreen are helpful in summer.

Parking is available at the Clark Street mural lot; expect some traffic because it rolls with neighboring downtown activity.

We’ve gotten so much rain the last couple of days that even the turtles are looking for higher ground. I found this guy while I was out yesterday trying to figure out where to move the cows.

Cows may have been out this morning but Milo was happy. He lives to chase cows. I wish I knew how to train a herding dog though. He runs on pure instinct. He did a great job even though he did get distracted by the pond a couple of times.

Killdeer Update!

They have hatched.

If you come to the farm store tomorrow look out for them. They will be running around somewhere I’m sure and they are very small.

A New Season

After a very hot summer the animals are enjoying the moderate temperatures and so are we. A lot of people ask what goes on in the colder months here on the farm. The two biggest priorities we have are 1) making final preparations for cutting and storing hay and 2) making sure we have a steady supply of meats for our customers through the winter months. There is also one other important thing we are preparing for this winter and that is a new addition to our human family!

“Each moment of the year has its own beauty.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
