This corn silage season was a constant fight against mother nature. Despite the constant rain and the muddy ground, thanks to our great crew of help, we got the crop in.

Holly Rock Farms is a 220-cow dairy owned and operated by the Keller Family. Multiple generations of Kellers live and work on their family’s dairy farm in Stuyvesant, NY. Brothers Kent and Paul Keller partner in the dairy with Kent’s son Brett. Brett’s younger brother Calvin is also an active part of the farm team. Together, the family cares for their herd, land, and equipment.

All four Keller men and their one hired man, Mario, work every day to obtain the highest efficiency and profitability they can on their dairy.

In addition to the more than 200 milking cows and 200 young stock, Holly Rock Farms works about 950 acres of land. They grow and harvest corn, alfalfa, and grass hay to feed their herd yearly. This time of year is hectic on the farm as they harvest corn and prepare their fields for next year’s growing season. Despite their busy schedule, they still welcomed me for a visit. It was a pleasure talking with the Kellers and learning about the numerous innovations they have in place to make their dairy farm sustainable for future generations.

Larger family farms are often mislabeled by the public as "factory farms" but in reality, they are still just family run farms like 97% of all dairy farms
