Corn must have loved all this rain. They are out by the truck! 3 for $1 or $1.25 shucked bags (approx 3 ears). These will not last long, the next patch of corn (if successful) is about 2 weeks away. We are hoping to get out and w**d the rows while the next patch is swelling.

What a busy season in our lives! From bringing home another Son from the hospital, to bountiful harvests of fresh veggies, and thousands of sunflowers popping this week... We are Blessed beyond belief. Thank you to everyone who stops by the Homestead and to those who place reoccurring orders! I hope you can slow down and take in God's beauty. This will be the last of our squash in the truck. We have tomatoes coming soon. Corn might be available depending on how well they have been pollinated this year. Eggs have been a huge hit, the hens can't keep up with the demand! I guess 40 hens isn't enough for yall 🤣😅. If you are intrested in placing bread orders call or text me @804-564-9396.

Incase anyone was wondering what would happen to the teeth of a plug aerator after 3 years and 100+ acres of compact soil... this is it! I'd say it's time for new plugs, but this poor girl has seen better days... broken welds on a bent axle, worn teeth, broken deck. Farming may be hard on the body, but it's harder on equipment. The New lithum battery on the golf cart lasted about 3 acres of pulling the aerator before needing a charge. Not bad! Soil health and compaction are improving. This spring has shown us our best pastures yet. Soon, we will stop feeding hay and continue with pasture rotations. God is good!

Hank, our bull, broke both leaf springs on the hay trailer last year. So we upgraded to a 2900lb set of springs and painted the undercarriage while it was upside down... Next year we plan on welding a rail around the trailer to prevent the cows from jumping up into the trailer.

Our sweet corn is not perfect, but it sure is tasty. As we improved the soil with manure and composting we will also have to plant more corn or hand pollinate next year. Each kernel needs to be pollinated for a full ear of corn. The black oil sunflowers are being enjoyed by the cows, goats, chickens, and some beautiful yellow birds. We are still filling orders for fresh breads. Thank you for the support, it helps us build up the Homestead. New equipment like the hay spear gives us more time for new projects and much needed rest on rainy days. Thank the Lord for the much needed rain.

This may be our first successful year with corn. They are approximately 4ft tall. Beans and sugar peas are producing. Squash are coming in too. We will have so many grapes this year. I hope our trellis system can support them! We have 8 rows of sunflowers (60ft) to help bring in pollinators and other beneficial insects.
