Groom Position Available

MCGEE FARMS PERFORMANCE HORSES (King, NC) is looking for a dependable, hardworking groom to join our team. We have a large REINING horse operation with approximately 22 horses in full time training year round and are looking for someone who enjoys working around horses and wants to stay for the opportunity to learn and grow in the industry.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Daily grooming and horse care

• Saddling for two trainers

• Bathing and braiding

• Putting horses in the walker

• Daily turnout for horses

• Assisting with general barn duties to keep area clean and tidy

• Cleaning and organizing tack

• Traveling to horse shows is a MUST

• Packing trailers for horse shows

• Assisting the veterinarian when needed

• Coordinating veterinary appointments

• Doctoring on horses as need

• Administering daily medications

• Feeding horses

• Assisting with Oocyte collection

Preferred experience:

• Previous grooming experience

• Trailer driving experience (a plus)

• Experience with young horses

• Experience handling young stallions (a plus)

This job requires an extremely motivated individual with strong attention to detail! We offer an hourly competitive pay rate to be paid via W2, but without benefits.

We offer a working interview to make sure the position is a good fit for both you and our team. A typical work week is Monday-Friday from 6:00am until the job is complete for the day which could be between 5:00-6:00pm or earlier on some days.

McGee Farms Performance Horses is looking to fill a part-time position working approximately 8-10 hours each day every other Saturday/Sunday with a start time of 6:00am, which means you will be alternating weekends with another employee so you are not having to work every weekend. There may be an opportunity for more hours depending on the schedule. The job is cleaning stalls, cleaning paddocks, filling hay nets, sweeping or vacuuming isle way, stocking wood during winter months, or anything else that’s required to take care of horses or other animals that live on our farm. You must be able to lift without restrictions up to 50lbs. You must be able to operate an RTV. The candidates attitude needs to be “there is no job beneath me”! You need to have care and compassion for all animals first and foremost!!! If you have dust or hay allergies or allergies period, this is probably not the job for you. We want motivated individuals with a positive attitude. We are not interested in individuals that are in a hurry to half butt do the job!!! We are not interested in individuals that think they can ride time to get more hours. We’ve been doing this job long enough to know how long it takes and how it needs to look. We are not interested in your drama either. We pay extremely well, but do not offer benefits. We pay W2 only. You must have your own transportation to and from work. You will not be allowed to bring your family or friends to work with you. You will be trained to handle a limited amount of horses. You will not be riding horses period!!! We love for people to care about our horses, but this is not a petting zoo so wasting time cuddling with the horses taking selfies all day is not permitted!!! McGee Farms Performance Horses is looking to fill a part-time position working 20 hours a week with a flexible schedule. There may be an opportunity for more hours depending on the schedule. The job is mainly vacuuming the dust build up in our barns, cleaning windows and pressure washing, but job duties may vary depending on the day. You must not be afraid of heights because the job requires climbing a ladder or being on a lift. Duties may also include mucking stalls, cleaning horse trailers or paddocks, feeding or filling hay nets, sweeping, stocking wood during the winter months, or anything else that’s required to take care of horses or other animals that live on our farm. The candidates attitude needs to be “there is no job beneath me”! You need to have care and compassion for all animals first and foremost!!! This job is not one that is truly ever finished. Dust accumulates every second of every day so it’s never ending. If you have dust allergies or allergies period, this is probably not the job for you. We want motivated individuals with a can do attitude. We are not interested in individuals that are in a hurry to half butt do the job!!! We are not interested in individuals that think they can ride time to get more hours. We’ve been doing this job long enough to know how long it takes and how it needs to look. So proud of this team!!! Deon and MCG EAT MY DUST were Co-Champions of the NARS MCGEE FARMS PERFORMANCE HORSES Open Derby and SERHA Limited Open as well as placing in the Levels 3 & 2 of Derby and SERHA Intermediate and PT Classes. They are bringing home close to $5,400 in winnings!
