Luckiamute Valley Farm

Luckiamute Valley Farm Welcome to Luckiamute Valley Farm. We are a small operation raising Registered Black Angus beef catt

Owned by native Oregonians Kurt and Sandra Holland, we are a small operation raising registered Black Angus beef cattle and Black Angus-influenced crossbred beef cattle, grass-fed locker beef, cage-free chicken eggs, Willamette Valley grass hay, and more! We are located along the Luckiamute River in the Kings Valley/Hoskins area of rural Benton County, northwest of Corvallis and Philomath. "We may be small in size, but we are big on quality!" Go Beavers!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Smouse Family of Philomath (Wren area) for the tragic loss of Tyler. Tyler died in a single vehicle accident late Saturday morning on Kings Valley Highway. Tyler had been helping us on the farm for the past three months, while Kurt recovered from emergency hernia repair surgery that has limited him in what "chores" he could do at the barn. Tyler was a great kid who did whatever we asked him to do, from stacking hay and feeding the cows, to mucking out stalls and helping ear tag newborn babies. He seemed to really enjoy working with the cows, and going up and scratching them and talking to them. He helped Sandra name a couple of this spring's babies. RIP, Tyler.

It's time to introduce the final calf of 2026. Meet "Turbo." This 90-pound bull calf was born Friday, April 10, five days past his due date. He loves to run around inside the barn as fast as he can. He is sired by SS Niagara, and his mom is our Elsie Bell cow that traces back to our very first registered Black Angus cow, Bell Key Lucy Bell, who we purchased from the Boehlke herd outside of Boise, Idaho. This little guy is already starting to grow like a w**d. All-in-all, it has been a successful spring calving season for us! 🙂

It's time to introduce our fourth calf of the spring. Meet "Tank." Tank got his name because, well, he is a tank. He weighed 102 pounds at birth, one of the biggest calves we've ever had. Luckily, his mom had no trouble delivering him. Tank's mom is our 3-year-old "Miss Raindance" cow out of S A V Raindance 6848. Tank's sire is RL Justice from Select Sires. Tank is off to a great start, nursing a ton and being very active. He is also very friendly so far, and loves to be petted and scratched. He comes right up to you looking for attention. Our next calf is due on Easter Sunday.

Introducing our third calf of 2026, "Lucky." This heifer was born Friday, March 13, and weighed 84 pounds. She was a big girl considering she was born 12 days early. Lucky is out of our 14-year-old W B Seri 464B cow that we purchased many moons ago at the Evergreen Exclusive in Washington. Her sire is RL Justice, a bull we have never previously used, and one we wouldn't have selected normally. Our two regular A.I. technicians were not available the day two of our cows came into heat, so the person who bred the cows that day only had one Black Angus bull in their semen tank -- RL Justice. It will be interesting to see how this girl does compared to the other calves. "Lucky" got her name because she was lucky Sandra went back to check on a couple of the cows the evening of the 13th. She thought she heard something and noticed our yearling steers and heifers behaving oddly. She checked and discovered a baby calf laying in the mud. We typically move our cows in the barn 10 days before their due date, so Seri was still out in a muddy area when she unexpectedly calved. We picked the calf up (despite a threatening, charging mad mama cow), got it out of the mud, and into a warm, dry barn, where she has flourished ever since. In all honesty, Lucky is probably lucky to be alive.

Another newborn to introduce is "Buddy," a beefy 98-pound purebred Black Angus bull calf that also entered the world on Tuesday (March 10). Buddy was sired by S S Niagara, and his mom is our "Patty Bell" cow. Buddy is off to a great start -- he was standing just 10 minutes after being born, and nursing within 20 minutes -- and is already getting into trouble , climbing inside the small hay feeder behind the barn.

Calving season 2026 is well underway! Meet "Misty," an 87-pound purebred Black Angus heifer born on Tuesday (March 10). She is sired by S S Niagara, one of our favorite bulls we've used over the years. Her mom is our "Coquette Commander" cow that we acquired several years ago from Rock'n D Ranch who always raises one of our best calves. Misty is off to a great start, and hopefully is a sign of good things to come.

And this is only part of it. It would make fishing, hunting, crabbing illegal in Oregon, severely limit the services and treatments veterinarians can provide to your pets and livestock, and the list goes on and on. PLEASE, DO NOT SIGN THESE PETITIONS, AND IF THIS MAKES IT TO THE BALLOT, PLEASE VOTE NO!

Merry Christmas to everyone from Luckiamute Valley Farm. We appreciate everyone who supports our little "hobby farm," and purchases our farm fresh eggs, locker beef, and purebred Black Angus replacement heifers. We just finished delivering locker beef this week, and were reminded of the great people we get to provide high quality farm products to. We appreciate you all. Have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable Christmas!
~ from Kurt, Sandra, Brandi the Black Lab, Blackie the lovable house cat, the herd and the flock! 🎄🎅⛄️
