Update Queenie:

Waking up from sedation with her cute new purple bandage. We will have to change her bandage daily. We need to keep compression on the hoof wall to help it retract. She will be getting hydro therapy and wound dressing. And we will also do some laster therapy to speed healing. Horse legs have very poor circulation, so leg wounds are extra hard to treat. But we are going to do everything we can for her!

Update 2 on Queenie:

At the vet, sedated her so we could get a really good look at her wound and assess it. Thankfully looks like no tendon damage but it sliced up her coronary band and the top lateral side of her hoof capsule pretty good. She'll definitely have a scar, and may have some deformity to the hoof wall after this. Time will tell. I'll post more pictures of it after it gets all.shaved and cleaned up.

Good news is she was in a lot less pain this morning after giving banamine last night. And there isn't any major swelling going on either.

Antibiotics and a tetanus shot are on board now as well.

Update on Queenie:

She was pretty ouchie on that leg, understandably. Thank God I have Bobbie, she caught it right away. It was still very fresh when she found her.

She hosed it off and smothered the wound in SSD and gave her some banamine for the pain.

We are a bit extra concerned with the New World Screwworm being at our doorstep, but are taking all precautions and being diligent.

Heading to the vet for further evaluation.

Warning. Graphic photos.

Owning and raising horses isn't always sunshine and rainbows. They can and will find all kinds of ways to get in trouble and hurt themselves.

Last night I got a scary call from Bobbie that Queenie had somehow hurt her leg. I was over 4 hours away on the other side of Houston for work. I immediately packed my things and drove 4.5 hours home through the night so I could get her doctored up.

Follow us to see her healing progress and for more updates, and please keep us in your prayers.
