I, too have been super blessed with wonderful clients.
There is a reason policies are in place!
This is a VERY busy time of year, and I appreciate your patience and understanding!
Let me give a little insight into why small businesses have the policies we do.
A few years ago, I had an order for a cake, cookies, and cupcakes for an event. The client wanted something over the top. The total was just over $700 and a $200 deposit was paid.
This was someone I had known for years. Both professionally and personally.
On the day of the event, she asked if I could deliver since she was running behind. Before leaving, I resent the invoice and reminded her the remaining balance was due. She assured me she had it handled at the venue.
At delivery, everything went smoothly. We chatted, I helped set up, she handed me a check with a tip, and I left.
About a week later, my bank notified me the check was invalid. I was also charged a returned check fee.
I reached out. She said she would look into it, and then blocked me everywhere. I never recovered the remaining balance (or the fees).
Unfortunately, situations like this are not as rare as you might think.
So when a small business requires a deposit, or full payment before pickup or delivery, it is not about being pushy or money hungry. It is about protecting the time, materials, and energy that go into your order.
Even if you have worked with a business before, or built a relationship with them, please understand there is a reason those policies are in place.
Most small businesses are not backed by investors. We operate off our own funds, and one situation like this can make a real impact.
That said, I have also been incredibly blessed with the most amazing clients who show up, support, and value what I do. The positive will always outweigh the negative for me.
As we head into the busiest time of the year, you may see me following up, confirming details, and double checking invoices. That is simply to ensure everything runs smoothly and no one is left disappointed.
Thank you for understanding and continuing to support small businesses β€οΈ
