Our first batch of meat birds is out on pasture and growing beautifully! It’s a good thing we have mobile range coops that move every day because these birds can put down a lot of manure in a hurry. The pasture certainly doesn’t mind, though. You can always spot the dark green strips of grass where the coops have been thanks to all that natural fertilizer.
We also made another short paddock move with the cow herd today. If you happened to drive by the farm this afternoon, you may have noticed a few calves wandering around where they weren’t supposed to be. 😂 Apparently, some irresponsible mama cows decided their calves could find their own way to the new pasture. As it turns out, that plan wasn’t very successful.
We ended up trying to herd four confused calves back in with the herd. If you know anything about calves, you know they don’t exactly move like a well-trained group of sheep! After a little while, we gave them some space, and they eventually found their way back to their mamas by sneaking through a few fences. All’s well that ends well. 😊
We also squeezed in a family CrossFit workout today, which is always a good time. We love staying fit for farm life and getting to do it together as a family.
Don’t forget to pre-order your whole chickens! Processing day is right around the corner, and when you pre-order, you’ll save $3 per bird.
