Living History Farm 1850s Exchange Place - Kingsport, TN. Once a self supporting farm on the Old Stag The cost for special tours is $5 per person.

Exchange Place is currently open only by appointment or for special events. Our next special event will be the Spring Garden Fair on April 29th and 30th, 2023. Special tours may be arranged at other times by contacting us at (423) 288-6071. In addition to tours, please remember that Exchange Place's grounds are now available for rental for photography sessions for only $30 per hour! Requests to ta

ke photos on the property must be made at least one week in advance in order that a volunteer can be scheduled to be on site. Please call Exchange Place at (423) 288-6071 to schedule an appointment. All proceeds go to support the site's restoration, maintenance, educational programs, and animal care. Thank you for your support!

Ever wanted to grow your own clothes? Exchange Place volunteers are doing just that! Here you see the demonstration bed of flax before harvest, and the bundles prepared to dry after harvest. The fibers will eventually be spun and woven into linen fabric.

A couple o' pics by one of the Master Gardeners, capturing the beauty of a peaceful moment in the flower garden. The Northeast Tennessee Master Gardener Association (https://www.netmga.net/) maintains a demonstration vegetable garden and flower gardens at Exchange Place. How thankful we are for the Master Gardeners! Not only do they help educate others about lawns and gardening, but they also help supply local food banks with fresh vegetables. And they cultivate beauty! Who could ask for more than that?

The Sweet Sorghum Seed Sowers Society had their annual meeting at Exchange Place today. We're proud to report that the sorghum seed has now been sown. We're planning to harvest and process the crop at Exchange Place's Fall Folk Arts Festival on Sept. 26, 2026. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped, and for new friends who stopped by and visited. It's always a good day at Exchange Place!

And just like that, the Spring "Country Doings" School Programs at Exchange Place are over for another year. Many thanks to all the schools, teachers, and students who came to learn about life on an East Tennessee farm in the 1850s, and to all Exchange Place volunteers who made it happen! We're already getting excited for the Fall "Country Critters" School Program!
