Still waiting... πŸ˜πŸ’–

People love to romanticize homesteading.

The sunrise.
The fresh eggs.
The happy little chickens running around the yard.

Nobody talks about spending your afternoon elbow-deep in what can only be described as a chicken crime scene. πŸ€’πŸ˜‚

Today was full coop clean-out day.

The flock acted personally offended that I had the audacity to remove all the "carefully arranged" bedding they'd been working so hard to redecorate. They supervised my every move like tiny feathered HOA inspectors.

But here's the thing...

A clean coop means healthier chickens, happier hens, and better (and cleaner) eggs. So even though it's sweaty, dusty, and glamorous in all the wrong ways...it's worth it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to take a shower long enough to forget what I smelled like today.

Everyone seems to be hunting for real farm-fresh eggs right now...and I completely understand why.

The last few weeks we've been selling out almost as quickly as the hens can lay. πŸ₯š

Right now we have a limited number of:
β€’ Free-range chicken eggs
β€’ Free-range turkey eggs

If you've been wanting to try farm-fresh eggs (or you're ready to stock up), I'd recommend ordering sooner rather than later. Once they're gone, they're gone until the girls catch back up.

You can reserve yours online and choose your pickup time, or send me a message if you need a different pickup option.

Thank you for supporting our little farm. Every purchase truly makes a difference for our family. ❀️

Can I ask you something?...

Have you ever secretly dreamed about owning a little piece of land and becoming more self-sufficient?

I'm talking about...

Growing tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes.

Walking outside to gather fresh eggs for breakfast.

Picking peaches, apples, or berries from your own trees.

Canning food from your own garden.

Watching a sunset instead of scrolling your phone.

Maybe even raising a few animals.

Or am I the only one who daydreams about these things? πŸ˜„

The funny part is...

The more I learn about homesteading, the more ideas I have.

My farm definitely isn't "off-grid."

Not even close.

But every year I find myself dreaming a little bigger.

I already have a well for our water, but I'd love to figure out a better way to irrigate the orchard and garden using our creek or rain barrels instead of relying so heavily on the well.

One day, I'd love to harness the power of the water running through our property to help generate electricity.

Every year I add a few more fruit trees.

A few more berry bushes.

A little more garden space.

A little more knowledge.

A little more confidence.

I'm slowly learning how to preserve more of what we grow so our pantry can be filled with food we raised ourselves.

I'm not chasing perfection.

I'm chasing progress.

I don't know if we'll ever be completely self-sufficient.

Honestly, I don't think that's the goal.

For me, it's about learning.

Building skills.

Being a little less dependent on the grocery store each year.

And creating a life that's a little slower, a little simpler, and a little more connected to God's creation.

So now I'm curious...

If money, time, and location weren't obstacles...

Would you want to homestead?

Maybe all the way...

Maybe just enough for a garden and a few fruit trees...

Or maybe you're reading this thinking, "You lost me at chickens." πŸ˜‚

No wrong answers...I'm genuinely curious!

Unexpected things I've learned from my donkey...

I never imagined one of my greatest life coaches would have four legs, giant ears, and an unhealthy obsession with apples.

Yet here we are.

Ralph has taught me more about life than he probably realizes.

For starters...

He doesn't waste energy pretending to be something he's not.

He's unapologetically...Ralph.

If he wants scratches, he walks over and practically leans his whole body into me until I get the hint.

If he doesn't feel like moving...

Good luck convincing him otherwise. πŸ˜‚

He doesn't care if it's raining.

Sometimes he'll stand right out in the middle of the pasture getting soaked while his shelter sits completely empty.

Funny how he hates baths, but he's perfectly content in the rain.

He's happiest with the simple things.

A yummy treat.

A good head scratch.

Fresh grass.

A quiet day.

He doesn't need the newest gadget or the fanciest barn (seriously...it's built out of pallets!)

He's just...happy.

And probably my favorite lesson...

He's perfectly okay just being all by himself.

Now before all the donkey experts come after me, I know donkeys are social animals. πŸ˜†

But Ralph is perfectly content wandering the pasture on his own, stopping for a full roll in the dirt, taking a nap in the sunshine, and enjoying life at his own pace.

Watching him has reminded me of something I've been learning myself.

Contentment isn't found in having more.

It's found in appreciating what you already have.

Peace doesn't have to be exciting.

Some days, peace looks like drinking tea by the fire pit.

Watching the chickens scratch around the yard.

Listening to the wind blow through the trees.

Or standing in the rain because...well...apparently the donkey thinks it's the cool thing to do.

Life doesn't always have to be busy to be beautiful.

Sometimes the best days are the ordinary ones.

And if all else fails...

Find someone who looks at you the way Ralph looks at apples.

Now that's unconditional love. πŸ˜‚β€οΈ
