It all starts with a bucket and a probe! Soil sampling is, in our opinion, one of the most important parts of getting any crop off to a good start. We are a very data-driven operation, and a proper soil sample, when done correctly, relays crucial information to us about past and future crops.
WHY DO WE SAMPLE?
- How did the last crop/season/fertility affect the soil?
- How is our current soil health?
- What adjustments/amendments do we need to make for this coming season?
- Can we save costs and minimize nutrient runoff?
WHY DO WE SAMPLE OURSELVES?
- Did we sample a representative area?
- Did each probe come out full, at the correct depth, and without debris?
- Is the bag marked correctly and does it contain the correct sample?
- Are soil conditions conducive to accurate sampling?
