Well o well o. Apparently Alsea and Shasta had a between the fence tryst 5 months ago. Here I’ve been watching Kat like a hawk the past few days. I looked at the camera and lo and behold 4 little rug rats on the ground! One unfortunately was stillborn. 2 doelings and the black one is a buckling. Before anyone asks, no she didn’t show at all. She was no bigger than any of the others. Nothing. I feel awful though because if I had known she was pregnant I would have stopped milking her a couple of months ago.

Sweet Elsa finally released the hostages— 3 to be exact. That toothy grin on the bottom right is Bjorn. He was so great with them. True Great Pyrenees breeding and Rottweiler sweetness. She was all about checking them out and cleaning them up.
Haven‘t had a chance to see what they are yet, I know for sure at least one is a buckling.
Born in this order Middle first, right 2nd – I had to assist on that one as one of the front legs was bent back — 3rd was the far left. Rare, born with the sac intact. I’ve had a few of those over the years and it’s always fascinating.

And so it begins. Our kidding season starts out with a single buckling. Please disregard my inept editing to remove the red. And, since I lost my kidding schedule, it was a surprise. Morning check her ligaments were still tight and her udder wasn’t full. Afternoon check same thing. I go down to milk and there’s this little guy all cleaned up and fed. Sprague is a good mama.
