As field prep and planting get underway, we want to talk about our approach to this season, specifically regarding water.
We know the basin is currently facing significant water challenges, and while our four acres represent a small footprint, we believe every drop counts.
We are committed to being responsible stewards of our water. This year, we are investing and installing water-saving irrigation to ensure we are as efficient as possible, using overhead watering only when absolutely necessary.
You might wonder why we continue to irrigate during a drought. For us, these fields are more than just our business—they are a vital habitat.
What started as a project for our bees and native pollinators has become a sanctuary.
Last year, we saw our fields thrive as an island of food for dragonflies, butterflies, hummingbirds, and bats.
Throughout the winter, we left our sunflowers and zinnias dead standing in the fields to provide shelter and fuel for both migratory and local birds, including eagles, cranes, and geese.
We don’t take the decision to irrigate lightly.
We view our fields as an essential refueling station for the wildlife that shares this basin with us.
Thank you for supporting our farm. We can’t wait to share our fields again this season with all of our neighbors, both human and winged.
