Ill tell you a little bit about the process it takes to make maple syrup, it is a lot of work. first you start by taking a tap, and you drill a 7/16 hole in a maple tree about 1'' to 1 1/2'' deep then you hang the sap bag on the tap and pound the tap into the hole in the tree. then you wate for the bags to fill up. the weather you need for sap to flow is below freezing at night and 40 degrees in t

he day time. that is what makes sap flow from the trees. After you have gathered your sap from the trees it is time to boil it down.(THE SAP THAT COMES OUT OF THE TREE IS AS BETWEEN 2 AND 3 % SUGAR CONTENT AND HAS TO BE BOILED DOWN TO 66% SUGAR THAT IS WHEN IT BECOMES MAPLE SYRUP) the process of boiling the sap is to evaporate the water from the sap. with the unit i have it has a evaporation rate of around 80 gph so it takes about an hour to make 1 1/2 gallons of maple syrup. if the sap water is 1.5% sugar content it takes 50 gallons of sap to make i gallon of maple syrup. if the sugar content is 2.5% it takes 40 gallons to make a gallon. and if its 3.0% it takes 35 gallons to make a gallon. so it is a time consuming process, but so worth it.that is just a sneak peak at the process of making pure ohio maple syrup.
