Some places remind you how small you really are… this is Volcán de Fuego, the Volcano of Fire 🌋
In 2018, this mountain changed everything. Without much warning, Fuego erupted on June 3, sending scorching clouds of ash, gas, and rock racing down its slopes.
Entire villages like San Miguel Los Lotes and El Rodeo were buried in seconds.
Around 190 people were officially declared dead, with hundreds more still listed as missing — and more than 1.7 million lives affected in the days that followed.
It looks distant and almost peaceful in this video, but Fuego has a long memory.
One of the most active volcanoes in Central America, it’s been erupting for centuries, with more than 60 recorded eruptions since the 1500s.
Even now, it’s still alive — throwing out ash, rumbling, and sending up smaller eruptions and gas plumes every so often, reminding nearby communities that this story isn’t over.
We filmed this from a safe distance, with a lot of respect for the people who live in its shadow — and for those who never came home after that day in 2018.
This isn’t just a landscape. It’s a place of loss, resilience, and memory.
