In November, two of our does gave birth. Rosebud had two boys (the bigger two that look like twins) and Ivy had two girls, small like her and just as sweet.
They were all happy and healthy, even through the extreme cold snaps we’ve had. But a couple days ago, little Bluebell, the black and white girl, was a little wobbly when I fed them in the evening. The next morning she was laying just outside her house, unable to stand.
I her inside, she was shivering and eyes twitching, so we cozied her up by the fire and she started feeling better and was able to drink and eat. We hoped she would be feeling so much better the next day that we put her in a dog crate in the living room so that she wouldn’t be parkouring on our couch. But sadly she was weaker and we had to bottle feed her.
We took her to the vet and they gave her every antibiotic, probiotic, and vitamins but she just didn’t get any better. Today they put her to rest.
We were so happy Ivy finally had her two girls, her own little family. She is essentially an outcast to the herd, even though she’s Rosebud’s niece, all the other goats are Rosebuds kids and grandkids so poor Ivy was always alone. Now she still has Daffodil but it’s so hard watching her look for little Bluebell..
The vet didn’t have a clue what exactly happened to her but it is sadly not uncommon for goats to suddenly take a turn, even when you are doing everything right.
