Had the honor of hosting a homestead work day for Shepard Springs Camp & Retreat Center. Youth learned about running a small homestead - chores, milking, mucking goat runs, and harvesting produce. We appreciated the help!!

In 2005 Maine native Sam Cronkite began processing and selling firewood in the Frederick MD area. In the coming years, Sam and his wife Megan would have three boys and this small side business would become Cronkite & Sons. In 2016 oldest son Ben created Mountain Creek Eggs & Produce as part of a merit badge for Boy Scouts and began selling eggs. In 2017 the operations were merged to become Mountain Creek Family Farm.
In 2020 after years of searching and in the middle of a global pandemic, Sam and Megan found a property in Knoxville, MD that would support the expanding desires of their children. In the 1800 and early 1900’s, the property operated as a sheep farm called Windover. Mountain Creek Family farm was renamed Windover Farm in honor of the properties history. The farm logo of an oak tree represents the large White Oak on the property that was propagated from the Maryland Wye Oak on July 19th, 1994.
This farmette is home to chickens, turkeys, Nigerian Dwarf goats and Boer Goats. It also is the location of Cronkite Rabbitry, 15yr old Ben’s operation that is registered with the American Rabbit Breeders Association. Greenhouse services will hopefully return in the spring of 2021. While Megan and the boys oversee the day to day animal needs, Sam manages the firewood and portable sawmill services.
Sam is a certified arborist and Vice President of Arbortecture Incorporated. Megan is a manager in electrical engineering at Northrop Grumman Corporation as well as oversees the boys homeschooling education. The boys are active members in Frederick County 4H and Boy Scout Troop 277 in Brunswick MD.
