English Valley Farm

English Valley Farm English Valley Farm is a farm located in Knoxville, Iowa. Owned and operated by Jim and Heather Scott. We purchased our farm in 2001.

On our farm we offer farm raised locker beef, game birds and local honey. Game birds include Bobwhite Quail, Ringneck Pheasant and Chukar Partridge. We raise a few angus calves and pigs each year for farm fresh and steroid free meat. We have a list of returning customers that purchase each year. We occasionally increase the number raised to allow more people to get on the list. In 2013 we planted

our first Aronia berry bushes and started our first bee hives. 2019 we decided to get our State of Iowa Game breeder permit so we can market the Bobwhite Quail and Ringneck Pheasant that we have been raising. In 2020 we increased our numbers to 6500 quail. This will continue to increase each season. 100% of the quail are hatched from our breeder flock. English Valley Farm has Bob White Quail for sale year round. We offer Ringneck Pheasant and Chukar Patridge for sale starting late summer through winter until sold out for the season.

I have been trying to dream up a better way to move pheasants out to my dry release barn rather than crating them all. This idea came to me. A Roose Hog cart modified. We moved 1680 pheasants out in about 1 hour. That was a half day job and a days worth of sore back the way we use to do it

Moved group 2 out today. The yellow group.Team Yellow. Each age group has a different color blinders. This helps us identify what birds are what age. Each group has their own pen until late in the season. When winter gets closer and water heaters come one we blend pens. The different colors at that time help identify their age.

We had some heavy super ball sized hail, most people first thoughts are, my car, my roof... while we do worry about those things because insurance is a scam and won't cover cosmetic damage, My first thought is the THOUSANDS of birds under our nets. All 100% non insurable, but mostly it is a living thing that we are responsible for providing ethical best quality life while they are here. I rush home as soon as Heather reported. Luckily this time, I only see one casualty in the open part of the pen. If they go to cover like they should, the cover and nets will slow the impact. Good day and close call today!!

Planting a prairie is a game of patience. Something I struggle to have. Spring plant 2025, Mowed down all summer 2025, burned down any fescue that was green in December when everything else was dormant and overseeded with broadcast seeding in December 2025. And today walking through our vision of our prairie, the first signs of bloom and establishment.
