Crazy River Ranch

Crazy River Ranch A small family ranch and cidery growing good food and hard cider in Humboldt County! We practice rotational grazing and never feed our cattle corn or grain.

Our farm is located just outside of Blue Lake, CA on the north fork of the Mad River. We share the land with a small herd of Black Angus Beef Cattle, a 8 acre fruit and nuts orchard, a cute smiley dog, 2 fluffy kitties, bees, coyotes, bears, foxes, owls, hawks, and so much more diverse life. We appreciate your support and your decision to support your local farmer!

We’ve got mixed feelings over hear about the arrival of spring!

We are so grateful for the water.

We are so grateful for the cold temperatures holding back bud break since we have not been able to finish pruning due to the rain.

We are grateful for the beauty of the blooming blood peaches and their frilly pink flowers.

We are also sad about the loss of our pluot flowers to the frosts.

And we are sad about the risk of fungal infections for our trees as the rains continue through the beginning of bud break.

We hope that the winds will be gentle on our trees as their delicate flowers open.

As an orchard based cidery that grows the fruit for all of our ciders we are at the mercy of our dear Mother Nature.

As farmer’s it is in our best interest to learn to adapt and adjust to the lessons she sends our way. Many times this means foresight and prevention… often times this means acceptance, readjusting, and lots of observation.

We love what we do and our relationship with the trees and the ever changing dynamics of working with fickle forces in the orchard and in the cidery.

We hope you will raise your glasses and enjoy our collaboration with the dynamic forces of nature that can be found in every bottle of Crazy River hard cider.

Pick up a bottle at the Arcata Farmer’s Market tomorrow from 10-2pm and celebrate the arrival of spring.

An evening peek into the cidery! This view of the cidery is just so magical and festive!

We will not be attending the Arcata Market on Saturday the 24th, so this Saturday is your last chance to get our market offerings before Christmas!

Seriously! How stoked would you be to get local grass finished beef for Christmas! Just don’t leave it under the tree! LOL

We’ll also have our Dakota black popping corn for stocking stuffers and of course our Crazy River Hard Cider.
We are running a special at market deal on our cider. You gotta come out to find out what it is!

There will also be 3 opportunities to sample our hard cider this weekend. Saturday at our market booth and at both ENF locations. See our graphic for more info.

Stay warm out there friends! We hope to see you this weekend! We’ll be at our H st location by Garden gate!

Guess what?!!!! We are on T.V and you know we made some Crazy River Dakota Black popcorn to snack on while we watch!

Back in October we had Eric and Viviana Hollenbeck and the crew from The Craftman out to film a pressing for the show!

That episode of The Craftman is now airing on HBOmax, Amazon prime, and Discovery plus and other viewing platforms!

We are so grateful for the work they do over at Blue ox and for the fine craftsmanship of our curly old growth redwood barn doors and the new juice box for our New Champion press!

The episode is #14. An Honest Day’s Work.

We appreciate that The Craftman highlights a way of creating that seems to go against the tendencies of production in our modern world.

Skills learned over time and applied with intention to create a product that reflects the humanity of the maker…a way of living that nourishes rather than the instant gratification tendencies that seem to take away from our humanity.

Thank you for teaching young folks and now the nation about the value of craft and an honest day’s work!
