We've been (not so patiently) waiting on this calf to be born for about 2 weeks. Checking multiple times a day to see if mama was in labor.
This is her first calf, and we actually almost took her to the butcher last year because I didn't think she was ever going to get bred. We decided to give her one more try!
I noticed on Sunday that she was waddling. This happens typically 1-2 days before baby.
Then yesterday, I got home at about 3:30 and she was up with the herd. By 4:15, she was down and pushing. I went to check to see how she was doing and could immediately tell something was wrong, the calf wasn't positioned correctly. So I went to grab my husband and chains.
We got the calf out very quickly, within minutes. The fastest I've ever seen a calf come out, actually. So I started rubbing on him to get him breathing good, I turned around and she had pr*****ed.
Dang it. We've called every vet in our area and none of them will make farm calls, so we have no other choice but to figure it out. I was really doubting it for a minute, but we prayed about it, and we got her uterus back in, and stitched her up. She got up and went straight to her calf! He was up and nursing a few minutes after she got up.
They're both doing great today! Praise the Lord. He continually gives us the strength, wisdom and knowledge to do things we have never done before.
