Encore was so handsome and regal…before shearing. Lol! He’s an old guy. His fleece isn’t crimped or long but he’s still a handsome fella.

Life is so precious. Sometimes, when I see new life and how cute these little cria are, I forget the miracle of birth. Last week, we suffered an unexpected loss. We knew it was inevitable that someday we would experience a difficult birth. I’ve read the books every year in preparation for birthing season. But nothing prepares you for the hands-on experience of being in the thick of it. I remember from my nursing days that you can do as many sims as you want, but in an actual code situation, it’s different. Sadly, we lost one of our dear alpacas and her baby. It is rare, but it happens. We were solid for 6 years and had quite a few babies. I promise we did all we could. The irony is, as I said in an earlier post, we are going to stop breeding. This is our last season, unless we decide to show down the road. For now, I am praying the rest of this year’s babies are born without incident, and I will hope for wisdom in caring for them, praising God for each new healthy life. It’s so heartwarming to see baby Louise frolicking with her big sister Liberty, and our 3-legged Thunderbolt playing in the tall grass. All the while, old 19-year-old Fiona is being the grumpy nanny. Love this little herd of mine.

Little Louise is figuring out how to use those long legs! She’s just hanging out in the maternity ward waiting for new friends to appear. Should be anytime!

Everyone is on baby watch. Still sitting, waiting, and hoping for healthy babies. This will be the last year of breeding for a while as we focus on new things. Stay tuned for soft, long legged, cuties. ***IF YOU sent in a farm tour request, please check your spam folder for a response. I’ve had a couple of duplicate farm tour requests. Good morning… (sound on)

It’s a tricky time of year. Tuesday these ladies were too hot. However, that night it nearly froze and has been lows in the 30s since. We shear at the end of May and everyone should be feeling nice and cool (but not too cool 👌🏻).

Trying to reason with Betty that spitting isn’t necessary during a pedicure…she doesn’t get it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I tried!
