Nothing is inevitable but change.
Nursery work is by definition a physically demanding occupation. Here at Century Farm, I am the sole person responsible for propagating, transplanting and growing, as well as loading, displaying and packing up every weekend. At the end of a long day in the greenhouse or an even longer day selling plants, every bone and muscle aches.
I love to grow, and I love to meet customers and help them with their garden needs. I love to educate, I love to troubleshoot and I get great joy from being outside in all kinds of weather and watching the season unfold. I just don't love the physical toll it takes.
It wasn't an easy decision, but I'm no longer going to design and sell my hanging baskets and plants at the farmers markets and shows. To say I'm sad would be an understatement. I'm proud of what I create and it is a beautiful part of me; it's a personal loss.
Century Farm isn't closing the doors, but we are undergoing change and I honestly don't know what that looks like yet. I do hope you stay tuned and go on the journey!
