Century Farm & Nursery

Century Farm & Nursery Thanks for your support of Clark County's small family farms! Century Farm & Nursery is a small, family-run farm in rural North Clark County.

We offer over 50 varieties of organically-grown salad greens for your home garden, and a select variety of heirloom vegetable starts in season. This is also where you'll find our unique hanging salad gardens. They are always a sell out for Mother's Day! We also offer a limited number of grass-fed beef, grown here locally on our historic 26-acre farm.

Nothing is inevitable but change.

Nursery work is by definition a physically demanding occupation. Here at Century Farm, I am the sole person responsible for propagating, transplanting and growing, as well as loading, displaying and packing up every weekend. At the end of a long day in the greenhouse or an even longer day selling plants, every bone and muscle aches.

I love to grow, and I love to meet customers and help them with their garden needs. I love to educate, I love to troubleshoot and I get great joy from being outside in all kinds of weather and watching the season unfold. I just don't love the physical toll it takes.

It wasn't an easy decision, but I'm no longer going to design and sell my hanging baskets and plants at the farmers markets and shows. To say I'm sad would be an understatement. I'm proud of what I create and it is a beautiful part of me; it's a personal loss.

Century Farm isn't closing the doors, but we are undergoing change and I honestly don't know what that looks like yet. I do hope you stay tuned and go on the journey!

It's the quiet before the storm here at Century Farm. I've been rather absent on this page recently, but I'm here to tell you that things are gearing up to get riotous! Ordering and planting begins in earnest right after the holidays. Hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving and had much to be thankful for. xo

The glorious bounty of a summer garden! I hope you've been taking full advantage of the beautiful summer we've been having. I have to admit that my own garden suffers somewhat during the summer months, rather like the shoemaker's children and their lack of footwear. Most of the summer months, you can find me on the back of a horse, at the river with my dogs, chasing my children around the state, hanging out with my parents and in-laws, or jumping off the back of a boat into the cool water. Lucky for me, given a little water, sunshine and a few judicious weeding sessions, the garden continues to pay me back in spades with tasty, fresh vegetables and fruits. Today's harvest included armloads of peaches, cucumbers, green beans, beets, squash, kale, tomatoes and of course, these lovely little watermelons. How has your garden grown this summer? I'd love to see some photos!

They say a picture's worth a thousand words. I spend a lot of time educating customers about the need to fertilize with the correct type of fertilizer.

Here are two salad gardens, both started at the same time. The one on the left has been fertilized with a special blend of high nitrogen organics that I mix myself, the one on the right with an all purpose fertilizer I was given as a sample at the garden show in Seattle in February. While it is probably an excellent fertilizer for flowers and fruiting veggies, it definitely doesn't provide the "food" the salad gardens need to thrive.

Truly, if you want your salad basket to keep giving you lots of yummy salads all summer, keep feeding it with either a high nitrogen organic food or our own Century Farm fertilizer blend. Visual proof that it works!
