The Schafer Farms kids had a strong showing at the LaPorte County Fair County Bred steer show yesterday, bringing home banners for Champion Shorthorn and 5th overall steer, Champion Hereford, Champion Chianina, and Champion Shorthorn Plus. A great way to start fair week with some home-grown steers!

Congrats also to the Bohling kids on winning Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Dairy Feeder Steer.

Bin progress: it's starting to stand out a bit next to the existing bins. If you've never seen one built, they jack it up and add sheets to the bottom. The hydraulic jacks are pretty nice compared to the old winch-style jacks.

The pursuit of happiness? Today is the day our bulls go out with the cows, or as the bulls had it in their Google calendar, the really really really good day. So, despite it being a little warm to mingle, crank up your favorite Barry White or K-Ci and Jojo slow jams, let the good vibes flow, and let those bovine pickup lines work their magic.

Bin update! The old bins are gone, and foundation work has started on the new bin. They use a footer and pour walls like they would for a house as opposed to our smaller bins, which utilize a one-pour all-in-one pad.

Progress, I suppose. The 1974 bin served us well for 52 years, but it's finding a new life elsewhere to make room for some changes. Side note: the "rebar" the guys used pouring the foundation themselves looks vaguely familiar 🤔😏
